I would be ok with 6-6 as long as our losses are not incredibly lopsided or filled with poor effort, complete mental lapses, or players acting like it doesn't matter. Don't think that will happen under CBJ though.

Very optimistic, considering the inexperience and average QBs that UT has on the roster, not to mention the difficult schedule they play.

I would say 5-7 is a good window with 8 being the best the team could do.

5 is what our last coach could, and did, do. I'm thinking that our current staff is better than that.

7 wins.

If another year in his system isn't worth 2 more wins we may be in trouble long term.

If qb doesn't improve in yr 2 who is to blame .. Dobbs isn't a freshman any longer, worley 2 yrs in system .. If good coaching should see enough improvement again to help in those 2 extra wins..

I can't even hazard a guess. If we see the same coaching job we saw at the end of last year, I think we end up with 4 wins. If the coaches step up and the players progress over the course of the season, that number could double. That's a huge range and I really have no idea where we end up at this point.

Wins: Utah State, Ark. State, Florida, Chattanooga, UK, Mizzou, Vandy

HOWEVER, I do think that this team, being so young, could be a team that walks into a game and upsets a big time team and not even know it because of youth. The swing game(s), again, seem to be Florida and Mizzou. Would be huge to upset UGA or SC on the road.

If we played UGA, USC or Ole Miss in Knoxville, I would say you might be right. But I think you called out all the games we might actually win. I think road victories are going to be extremely tough for the Vols this year, because of youth and because of the caliber of teams we play on the road (minus Vandy).

I'm starting to be a little more pessimistic as it sinks in just how many freshman will be depended on. Not situationally, but consistently.

I still think the Vols go bowling, but anything beyond that will be difficult without improved qb play.

Odd. I don't see 15 on the poll. 12 scheduled + SEC Champs + 2 Playoff wins.

Sorry, don't ask me to be realistic before the season.

When we lose our first I can break the label on something detrimental to my short-term memory, put on Johnny Cash singing "Sunday Morning Coming Down", and face the hard truth way too late and in darkest solitude like a man should.

But now, before the season starts and any whacky scenario of success seems almost possible?

Now is when we dream the dream and smile like wandering idiots drinking what small, annual dram of innocence the football gods will allow.

5 - disappointed but understandable with the new starters, QB talent, etc.
6 - meets expectations
7 - exceeds expectations

How many of the people saying more than 7 would be willing to put a few grand on it in Vegas? Very few, if any, I would think.

The pessimist in me says 4.
The realist in me says 5.
The optimist in me says 6-7.
The homer in me says 8+.

I voted 6 but also think we could pull some upsets during the regular season

and win in the bowl game

Todd Furhman in Vegas set the number at 4.5 and recommended taking the under. Perhaps that's the safer bet given our youth, inexperience and the fact that we looked like a well coached team exactly twice last year.

It is not fair to say: "replacing both lines is what will kill us this season." Our D-line, for the most part, was pretty awful last year. Just based off of the practices so far, the interior is better than last year. Not to mention Corey Vereen maturing into a steadier player, and an elite pass rusher in Maggit. Plus Barnett and Hendrix receiving all kinda of praise from the coaches.

With all of the bounces that went the other way the last few years, I think we get some breaks here and there and come away with 7 wins

6-6 regular season 7-6 after bowl win. Scary part is I can easily see us being 3-6 going into our last three needing to win out. But I have faith in CBJ and staff to get the job done.

Yep. The last three games of the year will make or break us.
