I just can't understand why so many think we can beat Oregon in their house.
What Oregon has going for it is the confidence to win and a home field advantage with Tennessee having to travel thousands of miles early in a season to play.
It is easy to get caught up in the subjective hype that surrounds Oregon. They win. That isn't debatable.
The problem is that when determining the value of a win, you must determine the value of the opposition. If you rank the PAC's teams by recruiting averages you see that they skew well below even average SEC teams. Yes, SoCal is the anomoly in the PAC (average top 5 classes or so) but Kiffin gets less out of his talent than Dooley did.
I won't spoil the fun for you guys, and you won't listen anyway, but go back and look at Oregon's performances against teams who out recruit them. You start to see that their talent averages, as per usual, dictate their performance outcomes.
In this case, UT and Oregon have the same recruiting averages. I am not predicting a win for Tennessee but I think the idea that the game is un-winnable or that a 25 point spread is reasonable are questionable conclusions at best.
For me, unlikely as it is...anything can happen in football. Unthinkable upsets happen all of the time. I would rather root for my team and think they can win any game regardless of the line. Will they win? Highly unlikely but not impossible and I'm certainly not writing in a "L" until the game is over.
and what happened when oregon came in 2 years ago?
Well, we were loaded with freshmen, grossly thin, muscle bound slowpokes, and a thunderstorm gave the Ducks a chance to adapt. Plus, despite my being a DD supporter, we were out coached, making no effort to adapt to Oregon's changes. Plus we had a QB who was so bad that even the at the time, child, Worley got the nod over him later in the season.
Kiffin coached our team against the Oregon Ducks!!!!???
I'm sorry, you and I live in different dimensions so of course we see things different.

I think the fact that they lost their coach is huge, and no one really seems to say anything about it. We've seen first hand how much a coach matters. We had a pretty good roster the last couple of years yet couldn't beat vandy last year for Christ sake. Maybe their former oc, current head coach, will work out but history says otherwise. We will absolutely have a chance. And I totall agree, 25 points is crazy!
