Beer (and beer pics!)

Back from San Diego and while I was mainly in the downtown/Point Loma, I was fairly confined to that area. Have to say how impressed I was Modern Times. No BA or sours, just damn good solid offerings. I also managed to accidentally hit Pizza Port Ocean Beach 5th Anniversary one night. Great pizzas and many fantastic beers on tap. I could spend a week there and not finish what I wanted.

I used to go to Pizza Port in San Clemente all the time when I was stationed at Camp Pendleton.

Who's your buddy? Does he work at the Nashville location?

Yes! He originally started at the location in Bowling Green, but they wanted him to go to Nashville when they opened up out there. He's been with them for a really long time, his name is Erik Rothfuss.

Was thrilled to see this come I today. If you can't tell, there is a difference between the two bottles.

Had my first beer since Sunday, been a wild week I guess. Had Blue Point "hoptical illusion" on tap at a little hipster place in Prestonsburg, KY

I was in San Diego back in feb for a work thing and I didn't get to really leave the hotel. But luckily all of the after work functions provided all you can drink bottles of Stone offerings. But I was bummed nonetheless. I can get Stone anywhere pretty much and all I wanted out there was to have time to find a bottle of Pliny : /

Good IPA for new craft beer drinker?

Take note of IBU on bottles of IPAs, DIPAs and TIPAs. In all honesty though, I didn't like IPAs for a really long time due to the hoppy taste but it took having an extreme hop Triple IPA that made me appreciate them all so much. That one was Sixpoint Hi-Res which clocked in around 115 IBU and it's tasty!

Also Dogfish makes some good IPAs

Lastly, if you're new to craft, experiment. Try everything. There's so many different things out there! Stouts, porters, gose beers, ales, IPAs, bocks, barrel aged, fruit beers, sweet, sour, everything in between. It's not hard visiting a liquor barn or other place that has a big selection and getting overwhelmed by the options you have yet to try. It's fun. Expensive....but fun.

Know Erik. He would come down for some of our events before he moved down here.

You would think I would have had a lot of their beers since I'm work so close to the taproom, but im usually ready to go home at the end of the day.

926 - their small brewery hasn't been around long obviously. They hired the head brewer from boscos here after boscos unceremoniously closed.

And for first time ipa - have to add sweet water ipa. Underrated "Kroger" beer

BC204 and STTH, it appears to be difficult to find. Is it something you can get?

I am in west TN. My buddy is more knowledgeable about crafts, and he has shared some that are tough to find. I tried KBS and Maduro Brown Ale a couple of weeks ago. I am going to Tampa in November and going to try to hook him up with some Cigar City.
Not sure I can help you out there. I am very fortunate to live in the Napa Valley of craft beers, so I can find just about anything locally.

So I shouldn't get excited for their beer obviously.

Don't judge it on Bosco's alone. Karen Lassiter, the brewer at this Bosco's, would stray from the Bosco formula often and made some fine beers. She just happened to work for crappy company. I've had afew of the corsair stuff. Good stuff atleast what I tried. They are more experimental in nature it seems.
