Beer (and beer pics!)

So freakin' good

It's Yazoo Fall Lager day. My favorite Nashville fall beer day.

Mayday is releasing their own IPA today.

I'm not a huge root beer fan, but for a root "beer," I don't think you could do any better.

Yea, I posted my thoughts about it a couple pages back. I like root beer, but I don't drink it often. When I was given NYFRB to try, I thought it was fantastic (and scary). I haven't gotten into many stouts, so I use it as a dessert beer. Still waiting for it in west TN. I would love to fill my growler with it on football Saturday's.

Here's my thing about this beer. It is a bad tasting rootbeer with alcohol. If I want a good root beer, I'll grab an abita. If I want alcohol in it, I'll add some. This to me is like those "beer-a-rita" drinks.

Maybe so. I find it to be good root beer (and I like Abita's, too). Maybe that means that I am not a true beer drinker. It was introduced to me by a friend who knows alot and brews his own. Once I had it, I was able to get a case and share it with others. I can certainly see how it could be enjoyed by those that don't drink much beer. I figured some genuine beer drinkers would consider it a gimmick, but I guess it's just personal opinion.

I think it is really more of a taste thing. I don't personally dig overly sweet beers like Southern Tier stuff. It was better before the brewery was bought out by PBR.

Is that what happened? I heard something about them teaming up with PBR to help them distribute but i didn't know PBR bought them.

Not sure if they bought them or what, but it doubtfully is being brewed by "small town brewery" now that it has hit wider distro. Apparently they are using much more artificial stuff for flavor. I know when it first game out, there was Not Your fathers and then higher grav versions like Not Your Grandfathers and Great Grandfathers. I guess they stopped making them. I just know this new version doesn't taste as good as when it first came out.

Interesting. I know a buddy of mine from Chicago told me about the stuff a long time ago and he went on about how good it was. I need to get his take on it now.

potsguy- my local store got 10 cases of Not Your Father's yesterday. They were saying it was the only 10 in town. So, it's coming.

This peaked my interest, so I looked it up. It appears that they signed a distribution agreement with PBR, but some PBR principals also purchased an interest in the brand as well. Tim Kovac, the founder, still has an interest. Kind of like everything else when demand for your product grows. The assumption is always that the product will suffer, but I have only had it since this summer. So, I guess I don't know any better. It appears they still offer higher ABV versions (10.7 and 19.5), but I would guess those are localized. Their site says that the 10.7 version is only offered by draft in Illinois.

Good work. I'd love to try the 19.5!

Good to know Volgee.

Unrelated- Just got in a bunch of the last canning of Ghandi Bot. Last chance to use the proper glassware for it.

When it first came out, it was hard to find because had such a small distribution. That was really not that long ago. Now it's everywhere. I can't imagine that it isn't being contract brewed.
