Beer (and beer pics!)

We usually don't get it until February. One of my favorite beers.

I stopped by Dixie Lee and they actually still had 5 cases remaining. They will go quick, but anyone in West Knox interested might strike gold if they hit the store early tomorrow.

Last year's Hopslam sat on the shelves for six months or more at some stores. I wonder if they produced that much again this year. It landed here yesterday.

How much is Hopslam sixers running down there? They're anywhere between $15-20 up here. Not good enough to pay $20, IMO.

I got one @ $17, one @ $19. It's expensive, but I find it outstanding and worthy of a once-a-year splurge. I'll probably end up giving away 6 of them.

Anybody else been up to Clinch River Brewing below Norris Dam? That place is awesome and I think they are about to open a location in downtown Knoxville.

Couple of good small brew houses opened up in the Orlando area. Still need to make it out to them. Need the wife to go on a family visit trip.

If I remember correctly, ours in Memphis is $16 and some change. I would probably even buy it closer to $20, but I usually just buy one.

I’ve gotten back on a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale kick. It’s the first beer that introduced me to the craft beer scene back in the early 2000s. I graduated on to IPAs with higher ABV but man I still love this beer

Sounds good. I usually go for either Founder's Breakfast Stout, or Ballast Point Victory at Sea (I think of it as a stout).

Founders Breakfast Stout is my all-time favorite beer.

Ballast Point opened up their east-coast brewery about 20 minutes from my home, so I get up there every once in a while. They've got some fantastic beers and some really great stouts- there's an oatmeal raisin one that is incredible.

Toppling Goliath will be distributed on the East Coast by the end of February.

Toppling Goliath and Atlantic Beverage Distributors are excited to announce the partnership for exclusive distribution of the Toppling Goliath portfolio in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Starting February 23rd, the Toppling Goliath core brands will be available in limited quantities to top off-premise accounts – Dorothy’s New World Lager, Pseudo Sue Pale Ale, Golden Nugget IPA, Pompeii IPA, and King Sue Double IPA. Special events will be announced with top on-premise accounts starting Friday, Feb. 23rd – Tuesday, Feb. 27th. All of these releases will be made available in MA and RI. We look forward to expanding the independent craft outline and supporting independent craft breweries.

Toppling Goliath Brewing Co. was founded in beautiful Decorah, IA in 2009 as a homebrew operation, in less than a decade it now holds the title for "Second-best Brewery in the World" and "#1 Beer in the World" by Ratebeer and brews seven of the top 100 beers in the world according to BeerAdvocate. Shining in the categories of hop forward IPAs and bold barrel-aged stouts TG has over 35 beers in its ever-growing catalog and delights in experimenting with new ingredients and styles.

When asked about this new partnership president, Clark Lewey said "We couldn't be more excited to be expanding into the Massachusetts and Rhode Island markets, the landscape and people are dear to our hearts and after years of requests from east coast customers we can't wait to get them the beer they love. Making this debut with Atlantic Beverage is a perfect fit for us due to their wonderful knowledge of craft beer and craft customers". Toppling Goliath now distributes into 12 states and has just finished construction of a 100-barrel brewery and two-story taproom in Decorah, IA.

At the Sierra Nevada taproom in Berkeley. Hazy Little Thing IPA, Hop Bullet IPA, Night Howler Nitro Coffee Stout & Bigfoot. They are all solid, but the Stout is terrific.

SF beer week begins Saturday and they are doing a Bigfoot vertical going back to 2009 next week.

Fiddlin' Fish in Winston, NC had a vanilla coffee stout (limited run I think) on tap last weekend- easily one of the best stouts I've ever had.

A nanobrewery in my town has a pretty good oatmeal coffee stout, as well. Had that last night.

Neither of those bottle or distribute anywhere, unfortunately.

Pliny the Younger. It is overhyped, but also a solid triple. The chase is pretty fun actually. Got in line at a beer bar in SF a few minutes before 10am, the bar opens at 11:30.
