so i posted this in another thread but the more i think about it the more amazed i am by it and really want all UT fans to see this so im going to start a thread(bash me if you'd like idc).

before we continue to bash and trash golden like we have and request such things as play wes instead, or play cam tatum instead, or play anybody instead please take a good long look at this. the following numbers that i am about to put up are from C.J. Watson's SENIOR year, and Trae Golden this year(SOPHOMORE).

Minutes/game:................CJ-31.9.................TG-31.2
Points/game:..................CJ-15.3.................TG-14.3
Rebounds/game:............CJ-3.1....................TG-3.1
Assists/game:................CJ-3.9....................TG-5.1
Steals/game:..................CJ-2.1...................TG-1.1
Assist:T.O ratio:.............CJ-1.8....................TG-1.8
field goal %:...................CJ-46%..................TG-46%
3 point %:.....................CJ-42%..................TG-38%
free throw %:................CJ-88%...................TG-83%

those that have made statements calling for washpun or cam tatum to start instead of golden please just take a minute and look at this. you are ripping apart a pg who as a sophomore is putting up the same numbers if not better than a guy who is widely viewed(respectably so)as one of the best pg's to come through tennessee. yet golden is viewed as someone who shouldnt even be starting for this team and should be on the bench. Unbelievable! I have supported golden but honestly, i never thought the numbers would be even close nevermind better in some ways.

They just look for a scapegoat. He has been inconsistent but he's learning.

He does some stupid stuff, but overall he is good and definitely our best chance of winning. Cam makes too many bone head plays and Wes is not ready yet imo

i feel like a big reasoning he gets blasted is because he is the one that has failed in the last couple minutes of play. maybe if tatum had gotten the ball and screwed up then thered be more love for golden because no doubt he has been our best player. the hate for him is just unbelievable.

How about a turnover stat? Just curious...personally I think they should move him to the 2 guard and let Washburn run the ball up the court especially late in the game...

i guess i could have spelled it out i figured everyone in the basketball forum knew what assist:to ratio is. it is assist to turnover ration. meaning how many assists do you make for each turnover, you usually want your pg to be around 2. anything less is bad especially under 1.5 and anything over 2 is considered very good. kendall marshall, probably considered the best true pg in the country, has a 3 to 1 ration which is phenomenal. as shown in the stats golden and watson both have the same ratio 1.8.

What do you think assist to T/O ratio means? It's the exact same percentage as Watson was his senior year. Trae isn't a great player but he actually might be by the time he leaves UT. He may actually turn out to be the best PG the Vols have ever produced. Granted, the guy would probably benefit from having a pass first PG playing alongside him so he could focus on scoring.....but he is far from being the problem that many people think he is.

exactly! he would definitely benefit right now from having a pass first PG starting so he could play SG and average probably 18 a game. for trae though if he can continue to improve at the position as you said he could end up being one of the best to come through here, and could end up finding himself being drafted into the NBA.

I know what assist to turnover ratio is ..thanks. Was just wondering how many turnovers he has per game...because lately it seems like a lot.

washpun then ..... geez

you are the type of person this was mainly meant for, to show you that golden is a good pg, i guess you completely missed that. so lets take out an all sec caliber pg to put in a true freshman pg who cant dribble with his right hand and couldnt throw a freaking ping pong ball into a 5 gallon bucket from 3 feet if he tried.

People forget that he made 2 clutch shots in the last game. Very clutch.

exactly yet where were all the people on here who talk about taking him out the last 2 minutes. i have no problem with people critiquing but when you are proven wrong be a man and show your face and atleast applause golden for what he did.

I've said it many times before. He plays absolutely great most of the game, except for the last couple mins. It just is what it is. It may be where he's having to log so many minutes. We just have to find somebody else to have the ball in their hands at the end of the game.. Hopefully this will end up being Stokes. Either way, Golden has made huge, actually beyond huge strides in his game, learning the point.

He wasn't clutch at the end of regulation tying up the game with that floater?

How about his turnover's and walking the ball up when he should be running.. You're stating facts, and so am I. I'm not hating on him or anything because he's been by far our best player, we just need a clutch guy who doesn't back down or screw up at the end of games.

Tatum maymon stokes all of them had crucial turnovers. I'm not defending Goldens late game antics just stating the whole team has faltered late in the game not just trae. A a unit when it's coming down the stretch there needs to be more of an urgency to cherish the ball.
