Before you hate on golden...LOOK!!!

so i posted this in another thread but the more i think about it the more amazed i am by it and really want all UT fans to see this so im going to start a thread(bash me if you'd like idc).

before we continue to bash and trash golden like we have and request such things as play wes instead, or play cam tatum instead, or play anybody instead please take a good long look at this. the following numbers that i am about to put up are from C.J. Watson's SENIOR year, and Trae Golden this year(SOPHOMORE).

Minutes/game:................CJ-31.9.................TG-31.2
Points/game:..................CJ-15.3.................TG-14.3
Rebounds/game:............CJ-3.1....................TG-3.1
Assists/game:................CJ-3.9....................TG-5.1
Steals/game:..................CJ-2.1...................TG-1.1
Assist:T.O ratio:.............CJ-1.8....................TG-1.8
field goal %:...................CJ-46%..................TG-46%
3 point %:.....................CJ-42%..................TG-38%
free throw %:................CJ-88%...................TG-83%

those that have made statements calling for washpun or cam tatum to start instead of golden please just take a minute and look at this. you are ripping apart a pg who as a sophomore is putting up the same numbers if not better than a guy who is widely viewed(respectably so)as one of the best pg's to come through tennessee. yet golden is viewed as someone who shouldnt even be starting for this team and should be on the bench. Unbelievable! I have supported golden but honestly, i never thought the numbers would be even close nevermind better in some ways.

Great post..yes those saying he shouldn't be starting or in the lineup, are talking crazy....

Tatum maymon stokes all of them had crucial turnovers. I'm not defending Goldens late game antics just stating the whole team has faltered late in the game not just trae. A a unit when it's coming down the stretch there needs to be more of an urgency to cherish the ball.

Oh I couldn't agree more with that. We just don't really have any late game guys, but hopefully Stokes can become that go to guy for us. They all look timid of scared for some reason at the end.

Agreed. I've said it many times now let trae handle it he is our PG but play needs to go down low. If they double on the post then I don't have a problem with a guard getting a wide open look on a kick out but it must enter the post.

These number are what really make me think trae has the ability to become an elite PG and find himself drafted in the first round as a PG. if his numbers look like this now, if he busts his butt I see no reason they can't improve to 15 ppg 6 ast 2to 3 rb. Now that isn't huge improvements you may say but improving assists lowering turnovers, and his points stay the same maybe up a bit but I'd look for his fg% to rise with him not pushing to score and picking his spots.

you are the type of person this was mainly meant for, to show you that golden is a good pg, i guess you completely missed that. so lets take out an all sec caliber pg to put in a true freshman pg who cant dribble with his right hand and couldnt throw a freaking ping pong ball into a 5 gallon bucket from 3 feet if he tried.

I like Golden allright....I just think it might be worth trying him at shooting guard....see what happens ....and I didn't miss your point....offering an alternate opinion...that's the point right? You just want everyone to agree with you? You cant deny that Golden has been dribbling off his foot a lot and struggling at the end of the game...Stokes was wide open for the dunk against Ga...to end it...

Golden gets us into a position for him to lose the game if its tight. He isnt clutch but he is a solid player.

If there was another option at pg I'd agree with you but there's not. Wes is horrible not even worth discussing. That leaves nobody else, by default it's golden man.

Die you watch him tie the game against uga in the final minute? Or almost hit the game winner. If he'd have made the game winner, does your opinion change?

Look, Golden is the only one who can create his own shot.

That's why he gets the ball late.

Do I have to name all the others time he proved not to be clutch? I dont think so. One shot doesnt change your clutch factor when the bad greatly outweighs the good. It is what it is.

I was just stating its not like he's never done anything. I agree that the ball should be going down low but it needs to be golden getting it down there not washpun or tatum as some suggest.

Nice post. They didn't like when I showed his numbers to be slightly better than Derrick Rose's lone year either.

i understand that he has turned it over late in games, this is indisputable, but he is a 1st year PG. if anybody expected him to come in and play the way he has theyd be lying i just dont get all the flack he receives. some people go as far as to call for wes to start instead, i just wanted to show people his numbers compared to someone who they actually like.

If not for Stokes, Golden would have had a crucial turnover near the end. A made shot on the other end would have changed the game and possibly cost the vols the game.

And if the ref has realized that was a foul, Golden goes to the line instead of Stokes.

yea but if golden fumbled the ball on an inbounds and the light were to have gotten in his eye, and the smell of popcorn catch his attention he may have turned the ball over ya know.

Coach Martin understands Golden's tendencies to "mess up" at the crucial moments in a game....so for UConn, Golden rode the pine for the last 1 min or so. Very smart move!

Golden must have had some huge scoring games against the weaker opponents to be averaging in the teens.

13 vs duke, 14 vs memphis(1), 12 vs pitt, 22 vs memphis(2), 12 vs florida, 20 vs miss st, 16 vs georgia.thats 16 ppg against some of the top teams we've played, his only bad scoring games against top teams were uk and today vs uconn. he quietly gets his points, isnt the flashiest guys but gets his 15 points most nights.

Golden is invaluable to this team. People criticizing him need to realize 2 things: 1) He is not a natural PG, he is a shooting guard that is being forced to play PG. Be thankful we have him. 2) He is playing injured. He was limping several times today and gutted out his ankle injury.

The guy is a baller and has a scorers mentality, something this team needs, just not at PG. If the transfer can play PG next season and GOlden can move to the 2 guard, it will make this team that much better because he;ll thrive at the 2 guard position.

Heres what im saying now though you all want a true point? Why was golden tonight 2 points only takes 4 shots dishes 6 assists only 2 turnovers has 3 steals and plays 36 minutes of great defense. To those wanting a TRUE pg what kind of numbers do you expect that's as good as it gets my friends.

It was a great decision. At the game, you could hear cheers when it happened.
