So making the CWS last year doesn't matter? Sheesh. This place kills me.In my opinion, its not necessarily that we lose but rather how we lose. We just won the regular season SEC championship. However, the last two games the boys could not hit water if they fell out of a boat. That is maddening when you look at the talent on this team. Stirs up concerns going into the tournament where we have routinely under performed.
Same could be said for the Notre Dame loss in baseball. That TN team was as talented as we have ever had in TN baseball history but seem to find a way to come up short.
Is losing in the SEC Tournament really such a big deal though, when you just won the SEC Regular Season Championship? Was it a big deal when we won the SEC Tournament 2 years ago? It must not have been ... it sure has been quickly forgotten about.
One thing I've always noticed about this place .... the "big games" are only the ones we lose.
Not the same thing. The '22 baseball team was dominate until that series against Notre Dame. Team statistically had the best odds of winning a Natty. The '23 baseball team was talented but would lose routinely to the '22 version hence the frustration associated with that Notre Dame loss. I was surprised and enjoyed the CWS experience last year but did not have expectations that TN would win it all.So making the CWS last year doesn't matter? Sheesh. This place kills me.
That's just how baseball is, dude. Do you ever follow MLB? Try having followed the Braves over the last 30 years. Not the same thing. That is what is so frustrating. When TN appears to have the talent edge we never seem to capitalize on it in any sport to win a Natty. Yes, we are competitive and very good in many sports with upsets that raise our fan expectations.
No $hit .... but it's just the conference tournament. The regular season is over. It's tournament basketball now.
You just want to use one season for his success in the conference tournament? He made the SECT finals in 2018 and lost a tight game to UK. He beat UK in the 2019 SECT and lost in the finals to Auburn. So, no, it wasn’t pulling a rabbit out of his hat against UK in 2022 when he has a winning record against UK.
The great lengths that some of you go to support your narrative. Oh yea, in each of those tournament runs to the finals, guess who he beat every year in the first game? That’s right, Mississippi State- the same team you say that “doesn’t have the resources.” I think he’s like 10-3 against them. Facts don’t support the narrative. Pick something else.
Wow .... That is one helluva run on sentence you've got there. Impressive!Got embarrassed and humiliated by a nine seed, nearly run out of the gym trailing by 22 at one point in time, had 19 points at halftime, even with a 30 second clock, team couldn't score 1 point a minute in the first half, Barnes never bothered to call time out and reset the team, reset the offense, set up a scoring play, had no answers for the double teams, had no screens to free the shooters, had no answers for the wholesale lack of productivity, points and leadership from 5th year seniors, this disaster today in Nashville was simply a mail it in from Barnes, staff and team, lost by 5 in Starkville back in January, were simply non competitive losing by 17 in March against the same team on a neutral floor, essential facts are sitting in the stats from today collapse and should be expected to be a precursor to the looming disaster coming in the round of 32 or the round of 16 assuming we can get there this time, tournament success is for gamers, gamblers and coaches that can get the maximum effort out of their team or face elimination, particularly when the bright lights and the cameras are on, the stakes are high and the chance to win against a team you previously lost to is on the table.

Was winning the 2022 SEC Tournament a big deal? It must not have been. It's never mentioned on here. It didn't improve Tennessee's seeding in the NCAA Tournament, and Tennessee didn't carry any momentum from it into the NCAA Tournament.
And this is over the top.Tennessee as a one seed in the SEC and NCAA tournament is laughable now, bad day at the office in Nashville today, the things that did not get fixed during the regular season came at a very high price today. There is no narrative, simply inexcusable and somewhat predictable program failure at the highest level today.
They were awful shooting, but they did combine for 10 rebs, 8 assts, 6 stls, and only 1 TO if you're looking for a silver lining. But man, they gotta hit the open looks. 1-11 won't cut it.Make no mistake this team has real weaknesses. Tennessee has two starters, who play heavy minutes, that can't make open shots and aren't a threat score. Vescovi and James were a liability today when we had the ball.
That was kind of his point. Who cares that they won the SEC tournament 2 years ago. That’s what he’s saying about this season, that the SEC tournament won’t be what is remembered. I agree. I didn’t care about it before this game. What I care about is a couple of guys who see big minutes not showing up offensive again and again, especially when our main scorers have a bad night. I think that’s why so many are concerned. I don’t think it’s about not winning the worthless SEC tournament, it’s about a concerning trend we thought would get better, but appears to have gotten worse.Who cares about two years ago? We are talking about the here and now. There are troubling signs that are reminiscent of the past 3 - 4 years minus Dalton Knecht.
My point was really more about how I'd rather get the losses out of our system now where it doesn't really change anything. In 40 plus years of watching sports, basketball in particular, where you can really lose any night, all that matters is THE tournament. Winning it is about being hot at the right time, to string the requisite 6 wins in a row together against good teams is hard enough. Today, however disappointing, was relatively meaningless. The real season starts now.Not aimed at you specifically, but more this idea that's been peddled around here since about 3pm. I know it's the comforting reaction to getting our teeth kicked in, but why do we need a kick in the butt? Was the UK game at home on senior day not enough of a kick in the butt? Why does a team starting 2 juniors and 3 seniors (5th-year seniors, at that) need to be coaxed and motivated to put forth their best effort in March?
Oh, please. Do not offend the lofty members of the LOTM. I don't know if the incessant insanity of laying in the weeds is driven by gambling losses or just a miserable outlook on life. How dare you state the fact that percentages are seriously stacked against any team, and in reality the journey is the best part. Great will never be great enough. I don't know why they watch the regular season, because they obviously do not care about it.There are 360 some odd D1 schools.
359 of them will not win the national title.
The older I get, the less of a “title or bust” guy I become. Reality is, you can have all the pieces in place, but you’re going to need a lot of luck to be that one team.
I had a ton of fun watching this team this year. DK is an instant Vol legend even though we only got him one year.
That will not change no matter what does or does not happen the next 1-3 weeks.
