Bernie Sanders Thread

Regarding Bernie's bullet point of "make joining a union easier". That's fine. Leaving a union should be a simple matter as well. You should also be allowed to opt out of joining a union, even in an at-will state and the right to specify that your union dues are not used for political purposes.

Union membership should be voluntary and public employee unions should be abolished.

Him saying that just goes to show this guy has NO IDEA what he is talking about. Joining a union is easy already. Leaving is what is hard. No one should ever be forced to pay a portion of their salary to some club so you can be employed. That's akin to paying someone to allow you to work for them.

Also federal public unions only exist to negotiate work schedules not pay and are not allowed to strike. I think state unions might negotiate pay. Not all are created equal.

And Old Crazy Bernie doesn't realize that everyone absolutely has the chance to go to college right now, EVERYONE. Most people can go for free, especially those poor socioeconomically disenfranchised ones he seems so worried about. And its affordable if its a state school for normal people.

What he doesn't understand is that some people aren't smart and will never hack it in high school or college. That's how the cards are dealt Bernie! I know you want everyone to have that extra ace up their sleeve but that isn't how life works. You can keep lowering the academic standards, keep throwing money at education and the ghettos, you aren't helping people become better you are setting them up for inevitable failure.

Nobody will realize the cost of education until it is free

When it's free will we really be able to call it an education? I mean look at the public school system. If illiterate kids can graduate high school, were they really educated? If this ever gets implemented, the quality of that bachelors degree could be the equivalent of a high school degree 20 years ago.

A kid will have to get a master's for a decent job.

We are sending people to college that should not be going due to cheap money and lottery money...

No, the consumer decides. Did you shop at Home Depot? Bet you did you hypocrite.

No, my IQ, every standardized test I ever took, and my success say so old man. Maybe your average run with small mediocre trucking companies makes you think somehow you have the right to call me this, when in reality, everything about me makes me better than you.

How many companies did you say you failed with? I have had no failures. I took people like you and showed you how to be better and more profitable. How many millions did you say you retired with? Oh, that's right you probably have less than 2 million net worth right? I've probably donated more money to many different charities and programs than you earned in your lifetime old man, who has done more for others?

How joyous is your old life spending a good amount of time on here, instead of out enjoying your retirement. Lonely?

I have earned the right to have a high opinion of myself because every accomplishment I have achieved says so. I have taken multiple struggling companies and turned them around, I have made many owners very wealthy, and I have done quite alright for myself. I can retire right now, at 38. How long did you toil and fail with your small companies? What was the largest revenue you created by yourself, with no employees? I have earned the right and if you want to get into a pissing contest old man we can.

Entitled, rich elitist. Get the **** outta here with that ish. Pics or it didn't happen, bro.

Fair points - if any of it were true.

The point isn't that everyone WILL go to college. The point is that ANYONE who wants and meets the requirements CAN get the funding to go to college.

Huge difference from what you're saying. No relaxing of acceptance requirements. College still wouldn't be mandatory.

Who out there cannot go to college simply because of funding? Please do tell.

They already can. And poor people get to go free already.

The people complaining about college debt are the ones who got worthless degrees, went to expensive colleges, or abused their financial aid.

It's pretty simple. Find out what degree you want. Find out the average salary for the field the degree would be used in. Is the salary>college cost? Ok good. If it isn't it's time to rethink "your dreams".

The cost of college is already out of hand. Can you imagine what it will be when its "free."

When I first enrolled at Tennessee in 97 it was $90 a credit hour and was pretty cheap. When I went back there in 2006 it had risen to $270. I was like WTF! Then I was offered all kinds of grants and loans that I wasn't able to get as a kid and realized with the new flood of money for going to college the school jacked up prices.

Must have been to pay for all those Neyland remodels..

I think that Lord Keynes would classify that as demand pull inflation.

driving up these ridiculous book costs as well. Thank God you can at least rent books now to save $$$. Back in my days your only option was to find a used book from the UC bookstore.

Bernie's record of flip-flopping on gun control is being ignored by his supporters. He is going to lose votes because of it in the long run.

Why should I pay for someone else college education?
In fact what about their..
Mortgage
Utilities
Job training
Child care
Healthcare

Just to name a few
