Best Current College BBall Coach

There are several catagories to compare for the top elite coaches.

1) Doing more with less. How does your team perform with less talent?
2) Player development. How do you coach and develop a team with talent?
3) Game planning. How well can you develop a game plan and also adapt during the game.
4) Player evaluation. How well you can evaluate and recruit players that fit your system.

#1 is coach pearl's strength. the other 3 are his weaknesses.

Powerful stuff...and insightful explanations for each. I'd also add:

5) Recruiting. How well do you recruit?
6) Halftime Adjustments. How well do you make adjustments at halftime?
7) Suits. How nice are the suits you wear during games?
8) Hiring Assistants. How good are your assistants?
9) Defense. How well do your teams play defense?
10) Overall Coaching. Overall, how well do you coach?

Well, since you are the KING KNOW IT ALL. You tell me. Oh, Im sorry, it makes you look cooler to criticise others posts.

Cool or not, it was funny as hell.

What was funny about it? The fact that he couldnt add anything or the fact that he thinks cutting down someone else's post makes him look better?

It so funny to have all of these people on message boards who most have never played sports but love to act like they know what they are talking about.

The fact of the matter is that there is many way to evaluate who is the best college coach. Rather than just mentioning a coaches name, I should be prudent to point out the differences.

so it's settled that Pitino is number one then? I like K, but Pitino wins #8 by such a margin that it's not close.

Pitino definitely beats K in a landslide when it comes to their coaching trees and selection of assistants.

Tubby Smith, Herb Sendek, Jeff Van Gundy, Billy Donovan, Reggie Theus, Jim O'Brien, Ralph Willard...it goes on and on.

I can see that, but I think Wojo, Collins, and even Amaker and Dawkins were great on the bench for Duke. I don't think the fact that he doesn't have a good crop of head coaches floating around reflects on his ability to coach players and get them to work for him. Everyone thinks they are so original with the goofy, pale white boy jokes, but those goofy, pale white boys play hard for him every game.

Plus he gets bonus points for getting Team USA a gold medal.

There's no doubt about that. K's recipe works.

His family tree isn't as star-studded as Pitino's, but it hasn't prevented him from racking up a staggering number of ACC championships, Final Fours, National Championships, and a gold medal.

Yea, I can't read. I meant Pitino wins #7 by a landslide and I'm not even counting the white suit.

Cal.3 players wind up in the NBA off last years team including freshman point guard.Possibly top point guard in country again headed to pros I'd think. Best two players in the country are headed to play at Memphis next year. Good coach, great recruiter.

If he could only get his players to hit free throws. :)

Tom Izzo easily.....in the past 12 years.....

Hear me out:

10 players selected in NBA draft, 5 Final Fours (3 in a row), 6 Elite Eights, 8 sweet sweet sixteens, 4 Time National Coach of the Year, 5 Big Ten Titles, has had 7 assistants take Div-1 head coaching jobs, and coached one of the Best National Championship teams in the past decade.

And this season is not yet over, and he has done a lot better job coaching this year than any of the final four teams left. You can argue this, but my opinion based on these stats is that he is the best active coach from the past 12 years alone, hands down.

How can you say EASILY?...Izzo is one of the elite, no doubt, but to say he is easily the best coach out there is stretching it a bit.

I agree with the "elite group" way of thinking more so than just naming one guy.

K, Izzo, Pitino, Self, etc

Surprised I don't see Roy Williams' name more in this thread. He's gone to more FFs than any other coach this decade (5) and won at least one national championship. Has the highest win percentage of any active coach, and ranks in the top 5 all-time NCAA tournament wins. Roy's team destroyed Izzo's team on their "home court" by 35 points earlier this year, and he's beat Mike Krzyzewski 7 of the last 8. He also has a winning record vs Pitino and Calhoun.

who cares. He also won less with the most talent in the game, a title he assumed from his mentor.
