I'm one and done with Samsung. LCD with two power supplies replaced under Bestbuy extended warranty (two year). Third one went out after warranty expired. I gave the tv away and will not spend another dime on a Samsung product. Just an opinion, but based on first hand experience.

You can have problems with any brand/model of tv/appliance. Nothing in this world is made like it was years ago. There are many more components in products today. Its luck of the draw.

But yes Samsung has had issues with Capacitors & power supplies for YEARS. The trade off is the great picture. If avoiding Samsung, go with a LG. Its a more natural color compared to Samsung enhanced color.

Wish I'd posted sooner. I bought a Sharp a couple of weeks ago based mainly on internet research. I was really considering the LG's at the time. Pretty happy with the Sharp after I adjusted the picture with the Disney WOW disc.

I appreciate your info though, and will pass it along to family and friends.

I got the LC-60EQ10U 60", no 3D. Haven't used the wallpaper mode. Durn it, and I thought I had it all set up. It has a Netflix button on the remote, which I have found to be both good and bad. Great if you want to go to Netflix, not so good if you don't. :)

You haven't paid close enough attention to the TV model # then. There is a model UN55eh6003. It was made specifically for WM/Sams. internal features were sacrificed, ie hdmi inputs, Optical Outputs & picture quality. Other retailers picked up the model to compete for market share. But Samsung caved & made a crappy tv so WM would sell their product..

Huh? You just repeated what I said.

I wish Freak would buy his damn TV and tell us what he chose. He probably takes 7 hours to grocery shop.

I'm not a supply chain expert but we've all read the articles on how Walmart pressures suppliers to come in at certain price points. But, a supplier like Samsung isn't going to meet those price points unless they take something out of the model-i.e. put in lower quality parts, etc. It just wouldn't make sense for them not to do that. And, they know its probably for a consumer who is more price conscious and less performance conscious. So, no problem.

I said Samsung DID concede & made a cheaper lower quality model to satisfy WM/Sams. They made it!! (You said they wouldn't)

So there is no issue when that consumer goes to hook up a sound bar but his model doesn't have a Optical Output??

I got my 51" Samsung Plasma 720p from Walmart a couple years ago. It has Optical Output. Works really well.

Good grief. I said it wouldn't make sense for them not to do that.

Bumping this thread...
Friday night I went and turned on our upstairs TV (Vizio 50" around 4to6yo?) and it's showing vertical color bars.

So it looks like I'm going to need a new one. I really like Vizio I've got another one 43" that's going on 8 to 10years.

Anyone have any recent experiences with a new budget ($300 and under) TV in the 50"-55" size.

Anyone have a Hisense or TCL?

TCL are pretty decent for the price. I've had several as has family. All are still working fine. I currently use the 65" Roku 400 series. The speakers suck but they will on all budget TVs. I think Hisense has taken over TCL as the budget king as of recent.

Use Rtings.com for comparisons. They test almost every TV on the market with pro and con lists.

I’ve got a 58” Hisense Roku tv. For the money I can’t complain at all and it was under $300

*this is the one I have. Not a bad man cave tv. $248

My 2010 55” Visio is still going strong. Only 1080p, but great picture and sound.

I also have a smaller, recent 4K Vizio, but the sound sucked until I added a soundbar.

I also have a LG soundbar on our main 43" TV that picked up 5 or so years ago for $10 at Goodwill. 👍

I'd love to go bigger but this TV would go upstairs at the end of a hallway/landing between bedrooms. Even 55" looks almost too big for the location. 85% of the time it's used only for when the nieces and nephew come by to watch tv.

We’ve purchased Sony (upper budget) Samsung LG and Roku. After about a year, I wished we had spent a little more time learning how many button pushes it takes to watch what you want from power up. Roku take the most, Samsung the least.

My experience is that Samsung makes great phones, earbuds, and TVs, and s***** appliances.

You can set the Roku to open up on whichever app or input you want. There’s a quick start power up as well.

Thanks, I’ve made a couple of attempts with no success. The TVs are in a guest bedroom and wife’s craft room so they are not used that much, with this confidence I’ll try again
