I was pretty pissed at first, but in looking at the matchups this really seems to be our best shot at getting to an elite 8 (there is no way we are going to a final 4 in any of the brackets).

I am curious, what 5 or 4 seed would you trade for? Just asking....

I would take Texas A&M's 5 seed in a heartbeat. Play Utah State, then winner of Sienna/Purdue game. We should have beat Purdue(with Robbie Hummel) and I think Sienna will beat them anyways. Fairly easy road to Sweet Sixteen, and then play Duke.

I would take Wisconsin's 4 seed. Kick the **** out of Wofford. Then play winner of Temple and Cornell. Win that game and we get an epic rematch against UK in a Sweet Sixteen game

ever post is about us just getting by SDSU or if we get by them and how Gtown and Ohio St is either athletic or not deep.Who is to say Gtown or Ohio St doesnt lose early.Gtown has lost and got blown out by teams not playing in the tourney.Even if Tn gets either one of them Tn can beat both of these teams if they play basketball and not street ball.Tn has to play with a purpose and not like they played against LSU or Ky.

yeah, a 6 seed would be fine, except we are in BY FAR the hardest region of the tournament.

i honestly think this is the BEST possible thing that could've happened to us going into the NCAA tourney.

the VERY LAST thing this team needs is to go in to the tourney feeling like they "deserve" their 4 seed. going in with a... "we're a bad ass 4 seed who beat KU and UK" is a guaranteed 1st or 2nd round loss.

going in with a BIG chip on their shoulder is EXACTLY what this team needs to play pissed off, focused and with 110% effort. no will can dispute that our team plays best with something to prove.

+1

Ironic couple of statements. I guess pearl didn't coach against KU or UK rnd 2??

yeah he coached those games... and USC, and vandy twice, and georgia... all those game huge blowouts... 3/4 we were favored. get a clue please. everyone knows this team needs EXTRA incentive to focus them and get them motivated. being snubbed, disrespected and predicted as a 1st round loss is EXACTLY the kind of motivation this team needs. pearls so called great motivational style has only resulted in horribly inconsistent effort all season long.

now sit down.

Don't worry guys, Stephen Pearl is going to get even more meaningful minutes in this tourney. All is well.

motivation doesn't work once you get to the ncaa tournament, momentum does. everyone is already motivated.

motivation is required to help create momentum... we need to create momentum. this team needs help getting motivated. i think playing with something to prove can provide the extra incentive the team needs to play up to their potential.

neither does sitting on your ass pouting. Something tells me that Syracuse lost a little "momentum" losing to G-town, but they will come out firing with a little motivation and make a deep run in the tournament. Tennessee's slate is clean, 0-0. No wins over #1 or #2 teams and no embarrassing losses to the USCs and Georgia's of the world. We have to worry about SDSU and every opponent we face in the tourney, they are going to come out firing because no one wants to go home. They better be motivated or they'll be watching the 2nd round from home

Tennessee is going to have to play good from the start. Syracuse isn't. Being a #1 seed that is projected to make it to at least the Elite Eight and being a team who most people think are going to be the "upset" special of the tournament are two vastly different situations.

My point being that Syracuse doesn't really even have to create momentum. They already have a game in the bag. Tennessee doesn't. Tennessee is pretty much going to have to create some momentum out of thin air.

exactly. hopefully, getting snubbed and discredited by the ncaa committee and being predicted as the biggest 1st round upset will get them fired up enough to create some momentum out of thin air.

I'm confident the Vols will handle SDSU.

I'm personally more worried about ETSU's second round game against Texas...

I wouldn't be so confident. I have watched the majority of their games this year and they are for real. Bad matchup for us.

Upset special? Is being a 6 seed constitute being the upset special? Seems to me the committee is saying we're already a mid pack team. It is true, they just like to put the shaft to the Vols anyway they can.

Best possible situation? First of all, SDSU is a TOUGH matchup. Hypothetically, if we were to make a run at the 'ship, we would go through (barring any major upsets) SDSU, Georgetown, Ohio St. Kansas, Syracuse, and then face UK in the championship game. I hate to sound pessimistic but i don't see us even sniffing it this year...

I like the prospects of not meeting a #1 seed until the Elite 8. And honestly I wouldn't mind a 6 seed in ANY of the other regions, but a 6 seed in the midwest is a death sentence. Heck, I would take any seed down to a 13 in the South. That region is a JOKE

How can people ***** about getting a 6 seed if you think we are going to get blown out by G-Town?

GTown could easily be a 2 seed. They deserve it more than Villanova. We have by far the hardest path of any of the 6 seeds.

I don't understand all of the whining about our seeding.

If we're such a great team to "deserve" a #4 seed, then why can't we beat the likes of SDSU (8 losses this year), Georgetown (10 losses), and Ohio State (7 losses). If we can't beat those teams, then we're not very good and we "deserve" to go home anyway!

By that logic, why don't you make Kansas a 3 seed? If they are so great then they ought to be able and beat a 2 and a 1 to get to the Final Four.

And just tallying up losses means nothing, you have to look at who they played. SDSU and Georgetown are probably the best of their seed groups, and I think should be seeded higher. Ohio State and W Va both had claims as a 1 seed, yet they get put in regions with the top 2 seeds? It's messed up

A couple of ESPN's "Experts" picked SDSU as their sleeper team to make the sweet 16. I don't see anything good about this bracket. In fact they even have UT playing at 10 pm, 7 pm Pacific. So much for an advantage playing in the midwest time zone.

It's unbelievable how they have tried to put us at every disadvantage possible.
