Best QB in the SEC next year (2007)

Don't call Carolina fans the worst in the SEC. That's ridiculous. We are a fan base starved for a winner. Finally, things are looking up and we are feeling good.

The fact you're 'starved' for winning doesn't mean the fans get a pass. A month ago my Gamecock friends hated Blake Mitchell and said with S. Newton playing, they would be better, blah, blah, blah. Now, suddenly Blake is the best QB in the conference. What gives?

well....what did ainge do the last four games of the season? compare the stats. I like ainge, stafford and russell....but I really think mitchell will have an excellent year and end up with better numbers than all of the above. factors, we return all bub five starters on the whole team.

Ainge was injured two of the last four games of the season. Therefore, the stats are misleading.

If Ainge played the last 4 games of the season, there might be something to compare. But, he didn't.

Yup, plus I'd say we might have faced tougher opponents in that stretch. Not by alot though. Stats aren't everything though. Andre Woodson would be the top QB in the SEC this year if it was all based on stats.

As for Mitchell, I just can't put him up in the top 3 after what happened this year. Coming in, I thought he would definitely be near, or even at, the top. He struggled early and Newton had to revive Steve's offense. USC won't have that change of pace next year to bail him out if he doesn't start out good. Smelley may even overtake him(which he almost did before the injury).

Coach Spurrier really expected him to push for All SEC this year but the offensive line had problems....

hmmm well we do have quite a bit of talent at QB here now and one on the way .....so .....maybe one of them will beat out the best QB in the SEC and stake claim to that title for themselves.

just compare his last four games.....not THE last four games.....good grief.....

ok, Ainge's last 4 games were against SEC teams, Mitchell had 2 SEC teams, Clemson and Midd. Tenn. State.

Mitchell
83-118, 1144 yds., 6 TD's, 4 INT's

Ainge
89-134, 1062 yds., 5 TD's, 3 INT's

Very similar stats, with Ainge not having a patsy to pad his stats. Take away the patsy and Mitchell has thrown a sizzling 1 TD and 4 INT's against quality teams.

How is Mitchell better again?

Like I just said, if you base it all on stats, Andre Woodson and Chris Nickson will have a big say in who is the best next year. If you go by wins and stats, Ainge and Russell have to be at the top.

No brainer... Ainge and Russell are at the top. Any chance Russell takes his talent to the NFL after this season?

If he feels like going in the later rounds and then riding the pine for the next few years, then sure.

Probably not, but some of his better WRs are gone. Their offense could resemble ours greatly, unless their OC leaves of course.

Blake will be the best in the SEC next year. When you look and that cannon arm and pinpoint accuracy along with his massive and experienced line, he will have all the time in the world to complete a pass to anyone of his acceptional pass catchers.

Are you joking? After the combines, this guy would probably be a 2nd round pick. The QBs aren't that deep in the draft this year. He's a definite pick for the 1st day. He would sit the bench a few years, but it's not like he doesn't have NFL talent.

I do think that USC could have a good offense next year. It just depends on how good the OL is. Earlier in the year, they started alot of young OL. By the end, they were starting 3 SRs. If those underclassmen don't step up, it could be alot of the same and Mitchell can't escape pressure like Swivel.

Not sure where he'll be picked, but Russell has the size and arm strength that will make scouts drool.

I don't know about Russell as a first day guy. I see 3rd to 5th round. He has the physical tools, though he isn't a great runner. He isn't great in the clutch either. I smell Byron Leftwich.

He has size, but not mobility. He ran it good against us, but, before us, he only had like 23 rushing yards.

He has one of the best WR trios in the nation, the nation's #1 defense, and it took him until last week to finally beat a top flight team. He's way too inconsistent to be taken that high in the draft. He'll need another year to show that he isn't an INT waiting to happen.

As for physical tools at the combine, I bet CJ Leak had some pretty impressive numbers.
