Best QB in the SEC next year (2007)

Yeah, against UT. Alot of QBs were clutch against us this year. He wasn't exactly clutch against UF or Auburn.

He was also VERY clutch against UT.

3 interceptions plus one good game winning drive against one of the SEC's worst defenses does not make one clutch.

Shawn freaking Carney had a great last possession drive against us.

Not to mention a fumble that wasn't called. If we had any kind of offense in that game(other than 2 deep passes), LSU wouldn't have had a shot at the end.

Yeah, well there is very few teams in the NFL that will lose after pulling down 3 INTs(especially in even matched games).

That non-call fumble is key. He goes from having another choke, to being a 'hero'. He can thank the refs for that.

Had he played better throughout the first 55 minutes of the game, he would have been taking a knee during that last drive, and LSU could have won by 14+.

Clutch means coming through when it matters most. Did he not do that?

He was clutch against UT. He won the game for LSU. You've got to be kidding me...

No, UT's defense lost the game. Russell did all he could to lose it. We just couldn't cash in. Bad play calls in the clutch and no pressure on Russell is what lost the game for UT.

Where was he against Florida? How clutch was that pass he threw short of the goal line against Auburn? How clutch was that fumble he lost against us on the final drive that wasn't called?

Bo Hardegree could have made the reads and passes that Russell did on that last drive. It was all scripted(see the TD and 4th down conversion). The one clutch play he made was the run and he nearly made yet another key mistake on it.

Hmmm... okay. My statement was that he was clutch against UT.

Had the fumble he lost been called correctly, he would have been the antithesis of clutch. Instead, he is just a player on a vastly superior team that managed to screw up one time less than it would have taken to lose the game for LSU.

clutch is a fun word to say when ya think about it.

Anyway, Russell has put up impressive stats sure, but he doesn't have the "clutchness". One drive against UT that could be considered "clutch", he got a gift non-call from the refs to keep the ball in LSU's possession.

Yeah, I guess the TD pass he threw in the final seconds doesn't matter at all.

Not if he doesn't get to throw it because he lost a fumble. Had Peyton Manning managed to win the Steelers playoff game last year, he wouldn't have been called clutch, because his victory would have been based on a bad call. Russell's victory was the result of an blown call.

Not sure that in the scheme of things his performance against us really means anything either way though. He's still 6'5" 260 and has a cannon.

It doesn't. It's still fun to make fun of his performance and gift from the ref against our defense tho. :)
