Best Whiskey

I'm partial to Speysides, but the selection is just so massive. The Glenlivet 12 is my inexpensive go-to, The Macallan when I'm feeling baller enough.

Laphroaig is really smokey, I wouldn't anticipate most people liking it. But it's a great example to use since it stand out so much

Laphroaig is definitely one of the more complex scotches out there. I think Islays tend to be more on the smokey side.

As I said to start, I'm a little out of my element with Scotch compared to bourbon but Speysides are the one I've had the most exposure to also. Have to say though that I'm looking forward to some of the Islays after the discussion you guys have been having in here.

Cigars go well with highland single malts imo. But I know what you mean. Islay malts are like liquid cigars. Mmmmmmmmm. I'm thirsty now.

Yep, pairings of anything alcoholic and tobacco or food need some contrasts. I prefer something with more oak than ash, hence my partiality to Speyside and Glenlivet.

From Islay, definitely get one that shows off the heavy peat - like Laphroaig. Really heavy and smokey flavor. Lagavulin would probably appeal to more palates, but still has a lot of the same characteristics.

Lagavulin is good stuff.

I bought some Chattanooga Whiskey just to try. The stuff is distilled in Indiana and bottled in Kentucky. **** that. It's pretty much just a novelty.

I have done some work on the bottle/packaging end of it. It was originally made in Chattanooga and then moved beacuase the guy making it could not fill his orders. From what I hear they are working on getting the funds for a facility her ein CHattanooga. They are going through SBA so it will be a slow process. That is what I have been told by the "insiders" anyways.

I saw that stuff in the liquor store the other day and was wondering if it would be any good. So you are saying save my money and buy something worth while?

I thought the taste was OK. But I didn't really read the label at the time... I thought I was buying a Tennessee product. For my money I probably wouldn't buy it again, but might be worth a taste if that's your thing.

interesting. i hope they do it

Was at a friends house this weekend. All they had was this. Not much better than the regular stuff, IMO. Gave me a awful hangover.

I've been told it's the sugar content. Distillers add sugar to aid in fermentation. I guess it's a low quality mash to begin with? I don't know
