Best Whiskey

Got ahold of some W.L. Weller 12 year about a year ago (Pappy Van Winkle Jr) - grabbed both bottles. Was fantastic. havn't been able to find it since

A product of not being able to forsee such demand for whiskey 12 years ago when these were being bottled.

Kills me that wl weller was my daily drinker. I have 2 cases but now only drink it on special occasions :/

wait what's this about Weller and Pappy? I know Weller is wheated and made by Buffalo Trace, but what connection does it have to actual Pappy?

The Weller 12 year is Pappy that didn't make the cut. Exact same juice just B grade

I just saw a Weller Special Reserve with a green cap (90 proof). Is that the same stuff? $24 for a .750 and $40 for a 1.75.

Just bought a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean Cask Strength (Voyage 7). Easily the most expensive whiskey I've ever purchased

How do you like it? I'm a bourbon fan but I've never tried it. I have tried Presidential Select 25YO which is mighty fine. (Purchased by a friend. I rarely pay over $50.)

I did try some Knob Creek last night and thought is was very tasty.

Thanks, Crusse. I like rye and have never enjoyed WhistlePig; it's on the list.

For the Old World, they took their 10yr rye and barreled them in old world wine casks (Madeira, French Sauternes, and Port), aged them 2 more years, tried them, and merried them with percentages according to how much the casks altered the flavor (the Madeira had the least alteration while the Port had the most). There are bottles out there that have different percentages, so the flavor profile will definitely change. The ones I've seen the most have a combination of roughly 60% Madeira, 30% Sauternes, and 10% Port. No clue what they'll offer

I'd also recommend the Balvenie Caribbean Cask. I don't like Scotch, but I like that one.

Yep, I've enjoyed it previously. Actually had some in a scotch/cigar pairing. Good stuff.

I've already picked out a few scotches, but there are always more on the list than I can manage.

I'd also try the Masterson's Wheat and the Stranahan's Barley. I've heard good things about Ardbeg and Arran, but I haven't had them before.

Which Ardbeg? There is a good bit of variance in the level of peat on the Ardbegs between the 10yr, Uigeadail, Corryvreken, Ardbog, Perpetum, etc although it is generally pretty high.

Peated/ Islay scotches aren't my main squeeze, but I'm down with the barley based whiskies.

Couple recommendations for some products that aren't domestic but are great for the price. Hibiki Harmony: generally costs ~$55 but is absolutely fantastic, was Jim Murray's Japanese whiskey of the year. Donegal Estates Irish Whiskey: only costs ~$25 but is better than a Redbreast 12yr, this bottle is hard to find as the product hasn't existed for too long, but this is a fantastic representation of Irish Whiskey.

I was just meaning their distillery in general. Like saying that I'd heard good things about both Ardbeg and Arran making good whisky. I had actually forgotten which island Ardbeg was on, but seeing that it's an Islay scotch means I'd be staying away from it.
