Best Whiskey

From Jim Murray of Whisky Bible.. Here it is. Best Whisky:

So, who is this year’s winner? For the first time, it’s from Canada: Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye. Jim scored it 97.5pts/100: ‘Rye, that most eloquent of grains, not just turning up to charm and enthral but to also take us through a routine which reaches new heights of beauty and complexity,’ he said. ‘To say this is a masterpiece is barely doing it justice.’

Have a bottle in my possession. Trying tonight.

JIM MURRAY’S 2016 WORLD WHISKIES OF THE YEAR
1. Crown Royal Northern Harvest Rye
2. Pikesville Straight Rye
3. Midleton Dair Ghaelach
4. William Larue Weller Bourbon (Bot.2014)
5. Suntory Yamazaki Mizunara (Bot.2014)

My sister got me some Red River Rye for Christmas. I have to say I think its pretty damn good. Strong peppery taste but not over bearing.

Going to be buying myself a bottle of Hibiki Harmony and Kavalan Ex-Bourbon casked soloist. Great stuff.

I would like to try a decent whiskey or scotch but am clueless about the stuff. Seems a bit expensive to experiment with and not enjoy it.

I have a feeling I am not refined enough to really enjoy it. I hate stuff like JD, too sweet for me, but I like crap like Sugarlands Shine unaged rye. I fear the actual good stuff would be lost on me.

Maybe there is a local (Knox) bar that provides a few clues and some samples? Just the difference between scotch, whiskey, bourbon, and so forth would be a start.

I believe Jig and Reel has a week night...maybe Thursday...where you can go in and try a half ounce pour for half price or less? Don't quote me on that but it might be worth inquiring about if you are interested in trying scotches. Jig has a crap ton of them.

Where do you even find it
It's impossible to get around here

We have plenty of bottles of every age available yearly on Black Friday at McScrooges. We also have the antique collection and some other fun things on that day. If you are looking to get some of that stuff though, you better be ready for your pocket to take a hit.

Drive by McScrooges whenever I go to work. Nice selection, for sure

Just bought a bottle of Jefferson's Ocean Cask Strength (Voyage 7). Easily the most expensive whiskey I've ever purchased

I've heard it's good but probably not worth the money (unless that just isn't a concern to you). Definitely a cool novelty to own.

I have it for sale at the bar and I think it's worth the high price. Pouring it into a brandy snifter and letting it open for about 15 minutes...it's pretty amazing.

I just tried 21 year old Grangestone for the first time. Usually I'm a pour it over ice and let it break down a little kind of guy but not this nectar! I tried a jigger straight and after three jiggers I just poured the ice in the sink. Honey dew wine water at $70 a bottle.

Four Roses hands down for me

Right there with ya on Four Roses. It kills Woodford Reserve.

Belle Meade out of Nashville area is pretty darn good. My wife and I toured the distillery a week or so ago. Pretty cool story for this family-owned whiskey. Bought a bottle of Belle Meade Sherry. It's aged in used barrels that originally had sherry wine so it has a hint of that sherry from before. It's up there with Four Roses for me but is a little sweeter, and twice the price of 4R.

Got ahold of some W.L. Weller 12 year about a year ago (Pappy Van Winkle Jr) - grabbed both bottles. Was fantastic. havn't been able to find it since
