Bible Topic Thread (merged)

Good Morning Manic,
I have a question for you. In the above post, you refer to the judgement day. My question is, do you really think that we will be judged for sins that we have been truely repentant of and asked God for forgiveness?
Just not clear on your stance because you say that you will be accountable for every thing that you have ever done in your life.

Sorry this was misunderstood. The bible says that when you repent of your sins he casts them as from as the east is from the west. Meaning he forgets about them. By being help accountable for everything we have done, I meant by our deeds. How we lived this short life God gave us here on this earth.

Oh! Hahaha, also VIA, isn't it bees? Flies? I don't know, I thought honey called bees but I guess if it's old and in a trash can it may well call flies :dunno::birgits_giggle:

I think as a Christian it is very easy to panic and want to "rush" the soul saving. You are set in your ways, very deeply rooted and as you mentioned, God has delivered you from a variety of worldly sins, and I would ask you if He did that over night or did it take a kind of "process" of getting to know Him? It's very rare to threaten someone with enternal hell fire and damnation and them say "OH!!! Thanks for saying I'd burn in hell forever IF I don't do xy&z b/c I've never heard that" And Wham-O, they are instantly changed. Again, I will ask you, did your addictive lifestyle suddenly chnge or was is a process?
Totally not judging you and the rest of these guys know that I'm not judging them either. I'm ok with people believing differently than myself. Furthermore, I'm so grateful God decides who enters into heaven, only He knows a persons heart and the capacity of their minds.

Sorry, I forgot to quote Manic :) But you guys can talk to me too!

It took a process. Yes, I know that being stern sometimes isnt the way to go. It is so hard to get a non beliver to believe. I reflect on this time about 7 years ago when my youth pastor asked us to " lead him to chirst" It was SOO hard. He would hit us with every question there could possibly be. It took us 2 1/2 hours to do it. it's a hard thing, and I promise you I didn't mean to come off as "i'm better than you" or "your a lesser person than me". If I offeneded anyone, again i'm sorry. For that was not my intentions.

I figured that is what you believed, just needed clarification, thanks.

That sounds like an effective challenge, seriously! Wow, you'd have a lot of good arguments and points in favor of Christianity.

It takes all kinds, people respond differently. Lord knows my Grandma threatened me everyday to stay the course :birgits_giggle:

If a lot of people could see that, It wouldn't have gotten so ugly.

Another question if you please....Do you think that it is your job to "get a non believer to believe"?
I would humbly submit to you that no man has ever "lead" anyone to Christ. We are commanded to present the Gospel and God will provide the fruit. I believe that your youth Pastor armed you with bad theology on reaching the lost. No one has ever been "argued" into the Kingdom. Just my humble opinion.

i agree. you can not get a non believer to believe. you can present the Gospel and hope and pray that they will believe

Very good opinion T-Town. There is no way I can make a non-believer believe. It's just as you said, we can lead them to christ, show them the ways, but ultimately the Holy Spirit deals with them, and they come to accept them on their own. In defense to my youth pastor his mindset was to simply prepare us for some of the questions that a non believe would ask. He wanted to see how we would take them, and also how we would respond.

If you're going to have a discussion about Christianity with anyone, a believer or a non believer you should know where in the Bible it validates your beliefs. I thought it was an effective exercise. Not to necessarily beat someone down with it, but just be well armed in the event you have to answer for why you believe the way you do.

Which is exactly what he was trying to accomplish. Defending your faith is VERY hard, and most people can't do it. I know a lot of people on here, including me tried. Was it effective, I really don't know?

To be quite honest with all of you. This is actually the first time where I have been challenged to defend my faith. I would say I failed miserably, but only in time does it get better. I really enjoy this discussion thread and thank OE for starting it. I think there will be many more discussions to come, and I can't wait.

I guess what I am hung up on you continuing to use the word "lead". That, to me, implies that you are taking credit for what God clearly tells us is not of our doing. It is God's will for all to come to him and he already knows who will, and who will not, accept Christ. So, that helps me to give God all the "credit" for anyone that believes.
Not trying to bust on you, just trying to bring a clearer perspective to this discussion.

What are you doing? Are you sore or afraid if you make nice your favorite thread will shut down?

You can LEAD! You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. You can lead a person to Christ but then it's up to that person as to whether or not they decide to follow HIM. I'm just confused by your tone

I wouldn't say you failed miserably, you were simply passionate about your beliefs and very zealous in pointing the word out to them. If I came off as though I were trying to be demeaning to you I am sorry. It is just that I have seen people pushed away from the church by the "fire and brimstone" and have learned a different way to approach them. This is not to say that you are wrong only that there is no particular tact to use on everyone and you have to try to persuade different people differently, and then there are those you cannot reach at all it seems. Those are the ones you must be the most compassionate and careful with, it may just take a very low point in their life, along with your friendship and patience to get them to come to the Lord.:good!:

I agree with being armed with knowledge. A first meeting with a non-believer is just not the place to show off ALL that knowledge. Baby Steps.

I can see where you are coming from on this. I will try to explain what I mean by "lead" I dont mean that I physically take them to Christ, nor take credit for anything he does. By leading them I simply mean, you show them them the ways to accept christ into their lives. Your leading them to his presence, he does all the work yes. He initially works inside them, and when they choose to come you lead them to him by praying the sinners prayer, by showing them the scriptures in the bible. Again, not saying we actually LEAD them to him, he draws them to him. I hope that was clear. haha

So what, are you gonna brow beat him now for coming off a little strong? I dare say PJ and Emain are not coming to this board for spiritual guidance. And I know they are not sore over someone trying to talk religion at them, otherwise they would have stayed away from the thread.

Not at all my friend. I was born and raised around the " fire and brimstone" method. I didn't like it at all. I was not trying at all to be that way, or to use that method.
