Big 10 Championship ( #1 Oregon vs #3 Penn State)

No. Clemson would get an auto bid and bye.

I don't think so. They would have to jump ahead of Arizona State who has only 2 losses and is ranked ahead of them at 15. Clemson is 17.

If Clemson wins the automatic byes go to:

- Oregon / PSU winner
- Georgia
- Boise State
- Highest ranked of ASU and Clemson

Clemson will NOT jump ahead of Bama. Yes, they will get a bid but seeding wise they will be 12 unless they jump ahead of Bama in the rankings.

The 5th conference enters based on their final ranking and if below 12 is 12.

If Clemson wins bama probably won’t have to worry about seeding.

Earlier this week someone asked if SMU could fall below Bama and the question was yes. That implies "losers" are not guaranteed to be in the playoffs.

I think the committee would like nothing more than to do that but I’m not sure they want to set a precedent that a loss in the conference championship can kick you out of the playoffs
Exactly. No one would want to risk a conference championship loss going forward. The conference commissioners would not like that just to get Bama in.

Georgia dropped from first to sixth after a 3 point loss to Alabama last year. It’s been done, regardless of the number of teams.
