They are not punishing SMU. They are making SMU win their conference game just like they made Boise State and Arizona State win their conference game.

How is making them play an extra game while already in the playoffs not punishing them if they lose it? Like Lashlee said, if our team got covid and were forced to miss the game they would 100% be in. The committee is telling them there is only downside to playing in the CCG.
