Whether it's basketball or football, win or lose, there's one constant.

Why watch the end of the game when you can beat traffic?

Oh I can't wait for this answer.

Trust me, I definitely am not trying to have a "true fan" argument. It's just pathetic to watch 65% of the arena turn and walk away with a 2-possession game being played with 10 seconds left. That's a ton of basketball, and taking our free throw shooting and their three-point shooting into account, that's not a safe lead.

Like you boo and leave when they're losing. I get it. But when they actually do what you want and are winning in a very close game...why not stay to watch it end?

My thoughts. I went to a game last season against Memphis (I live out of the state) and I knew it would be traffic if I left early or if I stayed. So I stayed. I mean why not? And the traffic wasn't even that bad to get out.

Drives me crazy to. Tonight wasn't as bad as most nights since there weren't many folks there to begin with! Like there was a lot of traffic to beat anyway.

People are fed up and disinterested in our basketball program right now. We could have easily lost this game. The program just has no excitement. People are starting to realize Martin isn't a very good x and o's guy and this team isn't going anywhere. When we go on a run and start beating good teams and stop losing to crappy teams then maybe people will get excited...but I don't see that happening under Martin and I think a lot of people feel the same way.

but like...isn't that all the more reason to stay? If you know that the end of the game is going to be a question, you just might miss overtime.

I secretly hoped that Arkansas would send it to overtime. In my warped mind I thought that the video of fans standing outside TBA trying to get back in like in last year's Finals would be golden. It would be all over ESPN. It would make fun of those fans and perhaps that mockery is what they need to have pride in themselves. They'd show the video, then cut to video of the sea of empty seats as the OT period started.

So fed up and disinterested fans are packing TBA? That makes little sense to me.

It wasn't.

Given that it was almost 10 p.m. and freezing cold outside, OP picked a weird game to complain about this.

It was horrendous. Half the people that were at the game left their seats with 12 seconds left. Like you couldn't see it through to the end? Really? It was a 5-point game and, had Arkansas pulled a rabbit out of their hats and sent it to overtime, it would have turned the game into a virtual neutral site game.

I'm not sure what that has to do with people leaving early? Sure I can see that effect people going at all, but you'd think the ones that go would stay until the game is seemingly decided no?

It's like the 4 minute timeout hits and people are leaving regardless of the score.

No one is packing TBA if you hadn't noticed.

The fact is when we matter and stop losing to the likes of UTEP and TA&M and start beating some good teams then people will stay.

What's weird is that it legitimately didn't hit until RIGHT before the end. People were leaving when their guy made it 5 points and they took their last TO. When we can't hit clutch free throws, Arky was making 4 out of every 10 threes, and we struggled to safely make the first two passes of every possession, that's in no way "in the bag".

I got home in time to see Maymon hit the big FT's from the intentional foul call. Then watched the exodus as the OP said. It baffles me too. I really don't understand why people leave a game early especially when it's close. You spend time to get to the game and then leave early? That's just dumb to me. I've sat through numerous blowouts recently in football and rarely leave early. If I'm going to spend that much time driving up then I'm going to stay until the end win or lose. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but you're not beating much traffic anyway. It's even less for hoops.

I'm just used to watching fans like the Jayhawks and getting insanely jealous. The Rock Chalk chant slowly and ominously starting around the 1-minute mark, that the fans practically look forward to participating in, keeps every butt in the stands until after the final buzzer.

UT fans stay for big games against Ky or Fla, but usually leave early for the other games. When Pearl was there, it was better, but they still left early at times.

We just beat a good team. Thanks for playing.

I find it truly sad how low your standards have become. This is whats wrong the Tennessee athletics today.

Arkansas Razorback

12-6
1-4 in conference play
Ranked 11th in the conference
They got lucky against UK

Sorry. Not a good team.

Welcome to Volnation! The place where positive people go, only to be turned into a Negavol. Don't get the disease.

If you're going to the game to watch what you expect to be a bunch of garbage, then why are you going to the game at all?

He doesn't, just gets on momma's computer and moans like a run over dog!!!! Guys like that have never spent a minute in a UT classroom or at a UT game, unless given a ticket!!!
