Oh I can't wait for this answer.
Trust me, I definitely am not trying to have a "true fan" argument. It's just pathetic to watch 65% of the arena turn and walk away with a 2-possession game being played with 10 seconds left. That's a ton of basketball, and taking our free throw shooting and their three-point shooting into account, that's not a safe lead.
Like you boo and leave when they're losing. I get it. But when they actually do what you want and are winning in a very close game...why not stay to watch it end?
People are fed up and disinterested in our basketball program right now. We could have easily lost this game. The program just has no excitement. People are starting to realize Martin isn't a very good x and o's guy and this team isn't going anywhere. When we go on a run and start beating good teams and stop losing to crappy teams then maybe people will get excited...but I don't see that happening under Martin and I think a lot of people feel the same way.

It wasn't.
Given that it was almost 10 p.m. and freezing cold outside, OP picked a weird game to complain about this.

I'm not sure what that has to do with people leaving early? Sure I can see that effect people going at all, but you'd think the ones that go would stay until the game is seemingly decided no?
It's like the 4 minute timeout hits and people are leaving regardless of the score.
I got home in time to see Maymon hit the big FT's from the intentional foul call. Then watched the exodus as the OP said. It baffles me too. I really don't understand why people leave a game early especially when it's close. You spend time to get to the game and then leave early? That's just dumb to me. I've sat through numerous blowouts recently in football and rarely leave early. If I'm going to spend that much time driving up then I'm going to stay until the end win or lose. Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment, but you're not beating much traffic anyway. It's even less for hoops.
I'm just used to watching fans like the Jayhawks and getting insanely jealous. The Rock Chalk chant slowly and ominously starting around the 1-minute mark, that the fans practically look forward to participating in, keeps every butt in the stands until after the final buzzer.
