Another thing to think about if Texas did somehow join the Big 10. I'm assuming they'd keep Oklahoma and A&M as non-conference opponents. That'd be a very tough schedule.

but someone claimed that tu doesnt have the same competition in the big 12.

Okie Lite may still be on the way up. I mean yeah, they stubbed their toe along the way this year, but we played em tough (as always), Stoops is usually up for a game provided he has a qb, and Nebraska only gonna get better in the North. We play ball down here too.
The Big 10 has Wisonsin, Penn State, Iowa, etc.
Not great teams, but I wouldn't say it's easier than Oklahoma State and Tech.

Texas would be crazy to go. They have the easiest road to success in college football... Texas takes 75% of the top HS players in-state, plays generally one elite-caliber program per season (on a neutral site... which just happens to be 3 hours from home). Mack has out-recruited his only real competition in conference over the past 5 years, and their OOC schedule is generally a joke, with the exception of the OSU home/home a few years ago.

Fulmer could win 10+ games per year today under those circumstances.

Winning less than 10 games at texas, under the current scenario, would be abject failure. Taking on road trips to Ann Arbor, Happy Valley, and Columbus in late October/November would suddenly make their existence exponentially more difficult... and being that they are currently the #1 revenue generating program, its not like they need the cash.

No way it happens, it makes no sense.

What I would like to know is: When the Big 10 does add this 12th team will they change their name to the Big 11?

It's unlikely Texas would take off for the Big Ten, but the Big Ten would be stupid not to try and nab them. They are probably looking to at least make Texas say no before they move on to more realistic candidates like Mizzou or Pitt.

I don't see any chance that Texas leaves for the B10...the only thing the B10 has going is the tv expouser and money from the Big 10 Network. I think Mizzou,Pitt,Syracuse and maybe Iowa State seem more likely choices. I'm surprised Louisville hasn't been mentioned.

If I were a Texas alum and my school's administration threw away all our rivalries and made all our road games 700 miles farther away just because they could make an extra $8m per year in TV money, I'd be livid. Goodbye Oklahoma, A&M, Texas Tech, and occasionally Nebraska; hello Purdue, Minnesota, and Indiana.

The only area in which it makes sense is money. Which means it will probably happen.

and this has what to do with Tennessee Football?
Domino effect......Texas to Big 10, Arkansas to Big 12......then who knows, if SEC doesn't replace Arkansas the contract with CBS/ESPN nul and void.......who leaves SEC to ACC? Kentucky or Tennessee?

So what's the vibe in the middle of Longhorn Country? Is this a remote possiabilty? Any truth to all of it?

Surprising number of horns are excited about the prospect. Old guard not so much. It's not going to happen though.

Tennessee or Kentucky to the ACC is the most hilarious thing I have EVER heard...There is absolutely ZERO chance of that ever happening...I repeat...ZERO chance of that EVER happening...If Arkansas left for the big 12 then We would go after somebody like WVU to take their place

I could see South Carolina going to the ACC instead of a charter member of the SEC leaving.

Why would Arkansas throw away the best TV contract deal of any coference to join the BigXII, especially the bigXII minus Texas and Colorado. Arkansas won't leave.

The Big10 will only take a school that is an AAU member, which Texas is(interestingly Notre Dame isn't). With all teams taking charter flights to games anyway its not that big of a deal. Texas state legislature (which forced Texas Tech and Baylor into the BigXII or they wouldnt let Texas and atm join) may stop it. Big 10 likes the move for the expanded TV deal, added foot print into the South. Texas likes it by improving the quality of school they will be associated with, Texas is currently somewhat slumming with the other BIGXII schools academically.

Colorado fits fairly well with the PAC10 while expanding their media market into Denver. Problem is there isnt anyone else that fits good. BYU or Utah might get some consideration but this expansion makes less sense.
