Biggest Overachievers to play for the vols

Craig Faulkner all the way. Out of all of the receivers that have come and gone from UT, he was my all time favorite.

I second that. Faulkner had heart, he had hands, he had decent speed, and he had the first down when it was needed.

Tee Martin. I guess we could debate whether he "overachieved" or just played at the level that was expected of him when he came to Knoxville, but did anyone really think he'd lead us to the NC?

I second that.

Rick Clausen (unfortunately, his brother never fully lived up to his potential)

Exactly what did Rick Clausen achieve?

The first player that came to mind was Travis Stephens. It has less to do with ability and more to do with physical stature. I would also put Will Overstreet and Mark Jones at the top of my list of recent overacheivers.

Why did you have to go and mention Wil Overrated? No player has ever received so much acclaim for doing so little.

Of the three on my list Stephens was really the only significant contributor to success, but Overstreet was a better pass rusher than he really should have been because of his motor and he was picked up by the Falcons (I thought you might object). Mark Jones came to play in big games when no one else would.

Any success Overrated had was a direct result of the fact he played with so many linemen who were NFL caliber. Nobody worried about blocking him with Henderson, Haynesworth, etc. in the fray.

That is really my point. He had some success. Considering his talent, his success, as modest as it was makes him an overachiever. Nothing made me appreciate Overstreet more than a few years of Constantine Ritzmann.

JJ McClesky is w/o a doubt one of the biggest overachievers to ever wear the Big Orange. Wasn't he like 5'6"?

Agreed, he walked-on and earned a sholarship. Went undrafted but played years in the NFL. Also was a great person. (he lived down the street growing up)

Incase you don't remember, "his brother", Casey, is 2nd and almost every QB record at UT. 2nd only to Peyton of course. To say he never lived up to his potential is totally wrong I think. He had a very good/soild career at UT. I don't remember him being hyped to be the next come of Manning or anything.

Another player that played above and beyond expectations was Darryl Dickey. He simply came in the 4th against Bama and did not lose a single game the rest of the way and was MVP of the Sugar Bowl.

Will Overstreet was one of the hardest working guys on the team. He played his butt off with less physical talent than most. The guy gave 110%, played hurt, and got results on the field. No way a guy like that can be overrated in my book.
