Biggest Vandy UT game ever?

This game may indeed give fans confidence in Jones, if the Vols are able to pull the upset. On the other hand if the Vols get beat by Vandy it may have the opposite effect.
Both teams are pretty evenly matched.
UT is coming off a bye and it's at home.
Don't see UT beating VU as an upset so if they do lose it should be taken that way.

It's huge for the fans. I don't know how big it is for Butch himself yet. Next year is when the games start getting big for him.

If this is the hugest game in CBJ's career I think that's depressing for all TN fans. It's important in that Vandy embarrassed us last year.

No, it's important to get to a bowl game, and then improve on it next year, If CBJ wants to be successful in the SEC, It starts here. If Dooley didn't get to a bowl game his first year, he does'nt survive the KY debacle next year. There will be many more much bigger games in his career I hope, but for now I think this is his biggest. If he loses it, then the pressure is on next year, and I believe we could lose at least a couple of big recruits.

if we lose this game and next year is a long year, then he is on the hot seat for the third year, we need this game for our Vols, and for CBJs.

But if he wins on Saturday and then has a crappy 2014, he'll still be on the hot seat going into year three anyway. Whereas if he loses on Saturday and then has a good 2014, he won't be on the hot seat. How he did against a decent Vandy team in 2013 isn't going to be much of a factor in how people feel about him in the fall of 2015.

Kentucky is the team that he can't really afford to lose to, because that'll never wash off.

It's a big game. We have to get back to beating the Vandys of the world first before worrying about competing for championships.

Why would it be any bigger than the other games this season? Every game is big for a first year HC playing the toughest schedule in school history. I think the SC game was the biggest because it was a win against a ranked opponent.

This game could be the difference between a hopeful offseason here on Volnation or a complete meltdown of the proportions not seen in, well, since last season...

If we are going to "rise to the top" then we have to start climbing sometime. If we don't win out and go bowling, then we're still stuck in the same place we've been the last few seasons. So I would say, yes it is a big game....

This game is not only big but HUGE for anyone who lives in Middle TN. Vandy fans are really starting to believe they measure up to UT standards. Losing 2 years in a row, on our home field, wearing smokey grays is unthinkable. Not to mention, recruiting the states top talent. Go Vols!!

ps - I will be leaving the Boro at 9am, tickets in hand and hotel reserved!!

I think most Vandy fans aren't claiming they're up to a 'UT standard,' they just understand that the talent-gap just isn't that big anymore. They have a coach who lots of people hate around the league, but that's what they've needed for years and something that precipitates the feeling of importance. You don't hate a program or coach that stinks unless you're a fan of that program. Who didn't love Coach O at Ole Miss or Bobby Johnson at Vandy? It's true that the fan support isn't there in Nashville, but as I hear, the athletic department jacked up season ticket prices for a laundry list of crappy games. Their biggest game was a Thursday nighter, not great for a fan-base largely composed of commuters. This game is big for both teams because next year's crop of recruits in Tennessee is really good. Both of these squads lose a bunch of talent and will be in rebuilding mode next year; hence, this game will be big in securing these guys in the Spring/Summer. Vandy beating UT, UGA, and UF, in the same year. The winner playing in the Liberty, probably, doesn't hurt either.

Sorry but a lot of you are overreacting about this game. Yes this an important game but this Vandy game is no bigger than the rest. Yes it will decide a bowl game but so what? If we lose its not that big of a deal. Yes VN will melt down and many of you will consider the season a failure and you're welcome to think that but it would be wrong. Regardless the outcome of the Vandy game this season is a success. We beat the #11 team in the country. The same team that will probably play in the SEC title game.

Considering the schedule, playing musical QBs and his first year I think Butch Jones has succeeded.

So basically, fans are overreacting to the Vandy game (and moreso a loss if it happens), who cares about a bowl game (if we don't make one)

But on the other hand Jones has succeeded because he beat USC and played a tough schedule?

Yea, lets just take our football and go home while we are still ahead. To me the SC game means nothing if we don't make a bowl game this year. It's time we turned the corner and start looking up, and it starts Sat. night.

What's so confusing? I am not going to hinge everything on one game. Apparently you and many others are. I want to go to a bowl game as much as anyone. Am I going to be completely devastated if we don't? No.

Yes given the difficulties Jones has had to endure this season , he has already succeeded. Two more wins and a bowl game would just be icing on the cake. JMO.

Must not be many vandy fans in Kingsport? CJF is on the radio weekly here, commercials on tv. Not to mention friends and Vol haters that would gladly take advantage of making fun of UT in the event of a loss. Nashville is an SEC melting pot, unlike East TN.

I don't mind giving credit for good performances against UGA and USC. Everyone should.

I also don't mind fans taking issue with a loss to a team that we are even with on the field with 2 built in advantages to tip the scales our way.
