Biggest Vandy UT game ever?

The Point I'm trying to make is this is not the biggest game UT has ever played, But I think this is CBJ biggest game he has coached in his Career.

You can say that he has played in big games before, played for and won Conference Championships, but all of that has just set the Stage for him to be at TN in the SEC playing Big time football with all of the big boys. Yea the SC game was nice, but we was peaking at the time, now we have been punched in the mouth, Beat down, wore down, and been humiliated by 3 very Very good teams. We will see what kind of coaching he can do to get us back on the level of playing with GA and SC. This is his time, and this is his place, It will take a good coach to get that done.

Must not be many vandy fans in Kingsport? CJF is on the radio weekly here, commercials on tv. Not to mention friends and Vol haters that would gladly take advantage of making fun of UT in the event of a loss. Nashville is an SEC melting pot, unlike East TN.

While that has some weight between fans it really doesn't mean much between the programs.

Let's presuppose the worst, just for argument's sake. Vanderbilt wins on Saturday, thus giving the Commodes their first winning streak against Tennessee since 1925-1926. Now think back to 1926, which was the year Neyland assumed command of the Tennessee football program. Despite losing to Vandy his first year, Neyland not only "evened the score" with the Commodes but set in motion this 87-year cycle.

Fast forward to 2013, Butch Jones' first season at Tennessee. He is already beating the unholy feces out of James Franklin on the recruiting trail; it is only a matter of time before he begins doing it on the playing field. How many of you Tennessee fans would accept a 2-year losing streak if it meant that it set in motion another 87-year cycle before Vandy ever won back-to-back games against Tennessee?

I hope its exciting like the OT win a couple seasons ago - that was great seeing Franklin go off a loser, but then the roof caved in at Kentucky

So the USC win doesn't really matter?

Does it? Let's be fair, how many SEC championships has USC won? The Vols didn't beat any of the three teams I'd call big rivalries this year: UF, UGA, and Bama. Bama/UT was a dream, but UF and UGA aren't really great this year, know that Georgia is injured, but... USC isn't a power program. The best in-state program is Clemson, debate it away, one of those programs wins titles. USC hasn't played a single quality West program this year: Auburn, Tamu, LSU, or Bama, they've done nothing, almost got beat by UCF. Great win... Hanging your hat on winning a game you're not supposed to and beating the crap on your schedule. Sounds a lot like a Vanderbilt fan.

I would guess not..unless you are like 5

I guess the confusion ensues for me.

The season doesn't hinge on a Vandy loss (which is one game) but it does on a USC win (which also happens to be one game).

Could be more to it. We ll see.

USC is an east contender and has been for a few years now. UT has been a doormat during the same time. While it's not beating our traditional rivals it's a good win for a team that's not real good.

But that wasn't really the point.

Lets just hope Ritter is not officiating...otherwise we will run vandy out of the stadium

The point is a loss to Vandy is not that big of a deal.

This game may indeed give fans confidence in Jones, if the Vols are able to pull the upset. On the other hand if the Vols get beat by Vandy it may have the opposite effect.

How do you pull an upset when you are favored by 3 points? I'm confused.

You guys that think this is not a big game should sell your tickets. This is in fact the biggest game (MUST WIN) that the Vols have played against Peabody EVA!!

GBO

There have been very few UT/Vandy games that had implications for both UT and Vandy.

For example, the '85, '97, '98, '07 Vandy games (for example) were very important...for UT. Not so much for Vandy. Had UT lost those games it would have been detrimental to UT.

This is one of the bigger UT/ Vandy games because both teams have something to play for.

What?? So because I said we beat SC it doesn't matter?

Let me see if I can clear it up a little better.

Your opinion.

1. Jones' first season is a success and you point toward a win over #11 USC to back that up.

2. A loss to Vandy is not that big of a deal because the season shouldn't hinge on one game.

My opinion.

If failure doesn't hinge on one game (Vanderbilt)
Neither does success (South Carolina)

All told, both games matter to the fan base and they matter to the staff and players because they don't want to be at home for the holidays instead of preparing for a bowl game.

As for Jones' success or failure regarding the season. Its incomplete at this point have 2 games left to play.

When I think of the Commode Dores, two decals instantly come to mind. One says, "Avoid the Christmas Rush, Start Hating Vandy Now." The other one was a Vandy decal that someone put in the bottom of their toliet bowl.
