Battle may punt on 3rd down, but he has been proven to lead companies and organizations to greatness.
I was at U.T. when Battle came in, and he was promoted from Dickey's staff. You are right that the program eventually went downhill, but his first 4 years were 11-1, 10-2, 10-2, and 8-4. He never had a losing season in his 7 years, and finished with a 59-22-2 record, and 4-1 in bowls.Battle fell on his face as a head coach, but think how nuts it was that he got the job. We had a top 10 program and gave the keys to a 28 year old?!?!
What he pulled off in the college licensing business after he left coaching is amazing.I was at U.T. when Battle came in, and he was promoted from Dickey's staff. Battle went on to be a very wealthy man in the sports licensing business. He has accomplished way more than most of us.
Funny how the best football program may wind up with our former coach and we Hart. But as for Coach Battle's Vol vs Bama rival he was involved in, don't recall him ever winning, actually think that was his undoing at UT.
Battle was not a good recruiter, he was a decent game day coach (not great, but decent) but most of al Bill Battle is a gentleman and a great guy.
I actually belive he will do a good job for Bama :cray:
I have a good friend who played for Battle and believes this a good move
IIRC Battle gets credit for being quoted shortly after his resignation that "class is when they run you out of town and you lead the parade".
Battle's success in the business world of sports licensing also leads me to believe this may be a very good move by Bama
