Bill Introduced To Abolish Electoral College

Again we are a democratic republic, thank goodness.

Don't like the rules? Work to change them through amending the constitution, it's that simple.
Poo pooing the very real discussion about how rule by minority is detrimental to a society isn’t productive. The EC or Senate structure can’t be changed because that would require minority states to relinquish their disproportionate power which obviously would never happen. That doesn’t mean we can’t discuss pros and cons of the situation. This line “don’t like it, change it” is an unscholarly cop out.

No it’s the end of a discussion you didnt have a convincing argument on. You want to keep arguing a point nobody is interested in hearing across the aisle. So we’re at if you don’t like the current architecture then work within the provided modification means and change it.

We’re at the same point on firearms legislation. The only topics I want to hear are what legislation are you going to remove because we don’t support additional legislation and believe there is too much limiting currently.

These two horses are dead and you just want to keep beating them. Feel free to do so and I’ll feel free to keep replying if you don’t like it then work within the system to change it.

progressives will never get a fair shake in this country. the deck is stacked against them. they should go somewhere else and let some more welcoming and fair patch of land benefit from the power of their diversity and inclusion. this country just doesn't deserve them.

Electoral College keeps elections fair

Rule by minority in this country is an extremely rare occurrence. Only 5 times in our history has a president won an election and lost the popular vote.

Just because it’s not an issue to you don’t mean it’s not an issue.
What is your issue with a republic working of republic foundations?

You keep trying to bring democracy into the equation. But have yet to establish why it belongs in the conversation.

You havent put forth any argument about how minority rulership is bad except to say Democracy. And you refuse to see that the "issue" is temporary and the system has a built in fix. If there is a fix and the problem is temporary then it's not a real issue or ethical wrong. At least when compared to a Democracy.

There is no science behind stating that majority rule actually creates the best possible solution. In fact Democracy is geared to result in the most popular option, which is almost never the best.

Let 50 kids vote on what's for dinner. And you are going to get pizza and ice cream. Not a balanced diet. And we have a lot dumber people than those kids voting on more important stuff than dinner.

It's because he's not getting his way. Nothing more than that.
I am trying to get him to admit it. Or at least provided justification for his stance.

He is measuring a Republic with a Democratic metric. A tomato may be a terrible apple, but that doesnt mean there is anything wrong with the tomato.

He will never admit to his tantrum.

Of course you aren’t interested in having that discussing, it only benefits your political leaning.

I haven’t heard you make a compelling point on either topic I listed. Ever. So.... of course I’m not interested in hearing anything else from you until you get better arguments. This really isn’t that hard.

Yep. And when we keep pointing out he makes lousy arguments he just ignores it and continues with the same ineffective worn out arguments. And somehow it’s our fault that we don’t care to hear them anymore 🤷‍♂️

Seems it’s trending up recently if we’re working off percentages.

I understand the argument laid out here. I also understand it advocates for one vote to carry more weight than another, which isn’t ideal.
Apples and tomatoes.

One EC vote does equal one EC vote. The presidential election makes no distinction between an EC from California or one from Mississippi.

Seems relevant to the discussion at hand.

You are taking exception to the way our REPUBLIC works because of DEMOCRATIC principles.

As it stands the system is working as intended.
Republic: a state in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives, and which has an elected or nominated president rather than a monarch.

I don’t see where that fits into a conversation about weighting votes.
