Billy Donovan to Magic . . . and back? (merged)

If he were that happy, he wouldn't have taken the Orlando job in the first place.

Not true. I have been happy at a place and gone to a new place for more money. Did not mean I wasn't happy at the original place. Just enticed by more money. Sometimes it is better, somtimes it isn't.

Come on man, you are just hating cause it's Florida. Everyone's had dilemmas in their lives. Some of us have had good pay vs job satisfaction contests in our working lives. That's all this is. After Orlando gets over the temporary anger and recovers some money it lost from season ticket sales which were there because of the signing, they'll realize it was a blessing to NOT get a guy who still had his heart at his old job.

Don't tell me what I am or am not doing. I ripped Bobby Cremins for backing out at South Carolina, Gregg Marshall for backtracking on CoC, and Bill Belichick for skating on the Jets. Therefore, your statement is ill informed and meritless.

True, but once you made your commitment, you stuck with it. I'm going to gain great pleasure watching Donovan's career now take the same arc as that of Bobby Cremins. If you're flighty enough to make a decision like this, then change your mind, you reap the whirlwind you created.

OK, agreed. Hopefully most of that whirlwind will be blowing in from Hurricane Pearl.

yeah, i think that's the bigger point here......it's just wishy washy....why he did it or didn't do it at this point is sort of moot. he did it. that's all that matters.

and GAVol is right....negative recruiting will occurr and in the short term, may actually lose him some guys...

All the Magic need are Scott Skiles, Dennis Scott, Nick Anderson, and they win a championship.....LOL

It's just Exhibit #448 as to why Donovan is nothing but a cut rate version of his mentor.

with the only difference being, BD didn't have to actually be subjected to getting his brains beat in by the NBA as RP did while with the Celtics.

He obviously lacked the testicular fortitude to try. Further, say what you will, Pitino left the Celtics in much better shape than either he found them or what they are now.

that's more of what i was getting at...as for the celtics, he may have left them in better shape, but RP didn't come back to the college game in better shape.
Oh, he won't be resurfacing anywhere. He's made his bed.
no argument there.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Show me how going to the NBA and failing hurt Floyd, Cal, Pitino or Kruger. Those guys all appear to be doing fine, with big time college jobs, to me. Also, their bank accounts are a lot heavier than they would have been without the NBA experience.

I think the main reason why he wants to come back to gville is his family...his son is in 9th grade and is making a name for himself as the star bball player of his team in H.S. and Billy's father coaches that H.S. team....i think that has a lot to do with it...but i think he shouldve thought about that before...

If that's his reasoning, he's an even bigger idiot than I intially thought.

Orlando is what, maybe a 2 hour drive from Gainesville?

i honestly think he simply got cold feet and bolted. plain and simple.

Just keep Anderson off the free throw line when you get to the NBA Finals.

Ol' Nick was never quite the same ball player after he missed those 4 free throws.

Don't you realize? The Magic had a clause in the contact that forbade Donovan from having any contact with his family for the length of the agreement.

:eek:lol: no, i guess i missed that part on sports center....

That's certainly no reason to call him an idiot, but the part about not thinking it through thoroughly beforehand makes him worthy
Unless the roads between Orlando and Gainesville have been occupied by enemy troops, it's a stupid reason.
