BJ Coleman and the Mocs (merged)

I guess....I had hoped that he would develop into a leader for our team, but he showed that wasn't going to happen through his decision to quit his team. He gets his starting role and UT gets a chance to bring in a guy who might contribute.

I was listening to the local radio here in Chattanooga and heard that they made Coleman the starting QB. Certainly not any surprise in that decision but maybe a little on the timing. It wasn't expected for there to be a starter to named at the position until we were closer to the beginning of the season but he has more than impressed the coaches and secured it outright in the very first week.

Good for him, this is what he wanted. I'll probably go see him play a couple times this year while I wouldn't have otherwise. Win Win for all those involved.

I hope you guys beat them by 70.

I hope we beat them by 70 also. I hope we beat everyone by 70 for that matter. As for him being a quitter, that's probably being unfair to him in some form. He made it clear why he saw his career at Tennessee as one that didn't include him playing on the field. Maybe he misunderstood what the coaches said to him, maybe they said verbetem what he told the Free Press they said.

If you're asking me, the label "quitter" is a better label for someone like Andre Smith who made a decision that he knew would lead to him leaving a team that depended on him in the most important time of the year, and still didn't care. A 2nd-3rd string player who felt their limited eligibility would be better spent at a program that included playing on Saturdays rather than practicing Sunday through Friday.... not ready to throw him to the lions with all the other "real" quitters.

my big problem with him is that he felt so disrespected by the coaches. he failed to do anything meaningful to separate himself from the pack and was, more or less, third string. a 3rd string qb with no distinguishable performances should keep his nose to the grindstone and play his butt off, not set up meetings with the coaches to whine about "not getting a fair shot"

I was reading the local newspaper here and he didn't have good stats to be named the starter that quick. I guess he got his wish of being named the starter

I personally don't think he did anything that some folks on this board wanted Jesse Scroggins to do. Both had a choice. Do I go to a school where I'll be 3rd string or do I go to one where I'm almost certain to start? Those saying Scroggins was an idiot for not choosing to go to Tennessee for the reason that he would've been the sure starter can't really be upset for Coleman understanding the very same thing.

You'll find alot of people here seem to feel like a jilted boyfriend where BJ is concerned.

We're gonna go watch him play. I hope he contributes to the Mocs, along with the new coach, and makes them a fun team to watch again.

I'm not mad that he left UT to seek playing time elsewhere, but rather the way he trashed the coaches as well as Crompton in that whinefest with the TFP.

Or perhaps people do not like……

...... a talentless spoiled brat who didn't want to actually compete for his spot, then attempted to use the drooling stooges in the Chattanooga media to spread halfthruths and outright lies about how he was treated by the coaching staff?

He certainly did do that. As a rival of Tennessee I loved his comments. Players, former or otherwise, should never make comments about their team that pleases their rivals as much as the ones BJ made.

Enjoy watching them struggle to win 2 games once again.

I don't understand why you would label him a quitter. He was not given a fair opportunity at the starting job at UT. He clearly outplayed Crompton in preseason but was still not given a fair shake by Kiffen. All the talk was Kiffen didn't want him starting because he would not be able to convince a recruit that he could play right away since BJ would still be there.

I appreciate that SGMVols. Nice to hear. I went to UTC, live in Chattanooga, have always been a Mocs fan, and go to church with the girl's basketball coach. So hearing that from a fellow Vol fan just makes my evening. :salute:

You actually believe all the BS he spewed to the TFP?

An NAIA quality QB being protected by a D-III quality line against Nick Saban's defense. You're right. I'm going to enjoy that immensely.
Good point. I hope the Mocs have a really good medical staff and quality health insurance on all of their players.

He's not the first 3rd stringer to transfer. People transfer off of teams in his exact situation every year. Not sure why he would say those things if they didn't have some form of merit to them. 3rd stringers usually don't say those things. Regardless, it was my opinion that he did indeed outplay Crompton in the spring.

there is nothing to base this on unless you were at practice or believe what BJ told a reporter. He was evaluated by UT coaches and was going to be 2nd string at best.

Well, I wish he had stayed with us. But as I come up on age 54, I've decided people should not live a life of "if only I had" regrets, so I don't begrudge him trying to do somethin else. Good luck, BJ; I hope you will be a Vol fan like you used to be.
