BJ Coleman

No, but you felt the need to respond, so draw your own conclusions. If you don't like the thread, don't respond. Simple. :hi:

I always feel the need to point out stupidity.

If you don't want to get ripped for a stupid post, then don't make it.

Then why even start the thread? You also said "let the blasting begin", so you knew most of the responses would be negative. You just wanting attention or something?

You're on a roll, how about starting a "What if Fulmer were still here" thread?

If there weren't any 'what if' threads or 'fire this guy' threads or 'how will the FL 2012 game go' threads then this board would have one page. good grief.

Let me first start by saying that I'm EXTREMELY glad we have Bray, and would much rather have him than any other QB at this point in the SEC. That said, I can't help but wonder what BJ Coleman would have been able to do had he not left UT.

I was reading an article today in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press about how strong UTC has come along (I'm a Moc, c/o '03 and '05 for grad school), so when I came to Chattanooga for college in 1999, I already knew how bad we were at football, and all I wanted was for us to have a decent team while I was a student there. Needless to say, that crapped out--badly. Rodney Allison came on as the HC after my freshman year, and was around WAY too long. I feel now that we have the right Coach in Russ Huesman, and a very solid team. UTC is now ranked 13th (or 14th, depeding on the polls) in the FCS polls, and has beaten 10th ranked Jacksonville St. (as a 23 ranked team), and plays at #3 Appalachian State this weekend, with BJ Coleman at the helm.

Through 25 games at UTC, Coleman has passed for 6,091 yards and 47 TDs. He is currently 4th on the all-time passing record at UTC and only needs 1,139 yards to break that record into first place, and 3 TDs to become all-time TD pass record holder.

Again, I'm VERY pleased that we have Bray and would NOT trade Bray for Coleman, but part of me wonders--if Bray never came to UT and we were stuck with Coleman, would he have been able to develop into what he is now? Granted he's playing at a lesser level, but I still gotta wonder... :whistling:

Let the blasting begin. :)

Well. if I'm not mistaken, at least 2 of the top 3 on that list were only 2 year players at UTC, so a 3 year starter will probably get the chance to break a few records.

Chris Sanders is #1, and I'm pretty sure he was at least a 3 year starter, but without researching into it I'm not sure who the other two would be.

The easiest answer to your question; you are unaware of the HUGE difference in talent at the level UTC plays at. HUGE!

Sanders was here for 2 years. Hampton is number 2. He was a 3 year player, but actually got beat out for the starting job his Sr. year by Freshman Coz DeMatteo, who converted to WR the next year when Sanders transferred to UTC. I don't remember who #3 is on the list.

In fact, Coleman would probably not be ranked as high as he is, but a few of the starters during the pass happy early 2000's era were one and done transfers, like Ryan McCann, Miroth, and Cedric Stephens.

Gotcha. I had Music 317 with Coz. "Survey of Jazz." What a great class. Coz was a pure cut up and a helluva receiver (at this level). :)

you know what would have happened? Coleman would still be sitting the bench in Knoxville and people in Chattanooga would be asking every day why he wasn't getting a fair shot.

Oh and we would have also lost the 2008 Vandy game if Coleman fans had their way

If i remember correctly... BJ wasnÂ’t a world beater against Vandy but he did okay after the pick 6 considering getting thrown in there...

Bray didn't look so good his first couple seriesÂ’ out either... I think keeping him in against USCe and in for the rest of the season worked out pretty well... Not saying Coleman is anywhere near as good as Bray just pointing out it took Bray a series or two to figure things out.

"Today will be a day long remembered. It has seen the death of Kenobi, and will soon see the end of the Rebellion."

Hah, that made me laugh. Just watched IV last night out of my new Blu Ray collection.

The fact that posters think Coleman will get drafted is mind boggling to me. His stats are great at the level he plays at. But if you think he will go to the NFL Draft Combine and do anything that impresses the NFL scouts you need to pay closer attention to the NFL. It will take about one drill for NFL GM's to put a huge black mark next to his name because of his arm strength. Its not a personal attack on him but he just flat out does not have the arm strength to make the throws that you are required to be made in the NFL.

If you're referring to me, I never once said he'd get drafted. IMO that's nearly unimaginable. I agree with what you say about his ability at the 1-AA level. I think draft experts and scouts will tear him to pieces if he decides to apply for the draft, but I am very glad he's had success at this level and made UTC at least a moderately relavent team for the first time in YEARS.

Draft experts actually have him late 6th to 7th round. I don't think he will go unless he has an amazing season and workout

For the record--I didn't this time, but if I ever do start a thread for "attention," at least now I know how to be effective with it. :)

It was an excellent post. The topic was more pertinent last year, but it can still get some play with the ideologues stalking this board.

Clearly we would be a much better team with BJ. He didn't get a fair shot (and part of this is on Fulmer actually), and he left and got immediate PT.

And given his draft status, it looks like he'll be a Chattanooga legend, and he made a good decision for himself. Best of luck to him.

I think this is warranted:

I think it's comical how the Fulmer lovers still try and hold on to Coleman, thinking because Fulmer got him here that he would have been great in time. There is a reason he is playing at UTC now and not a major D1 school.

Yes, because he chose to get immediate PT at his hometown school and not sit out a year.
