Blue Chip ratio among teams that have won national championships.

The meaning of generational is once in a generation, or about every 20 years. By my calculations, it should be impossible that all of these “generational” QB’s have been playing against one another in the NCAA.

You're simply playing semantics. I'm using generational in a colloquial sense not a literal one. You know how most people in sports use that term. For QBs it typically refers to a guy who is considered a heisman trophy finalist and high first round draft pick. Guys like Jameis Winston, Deshaun Watson, and Trevor Lawrence would fit that bill despite all being in the same "generation".

The blue chip ratio for each individual recruiting class is:
2021: 31.25%
2022: 43.48%
2023: 46.15%
2024: 57.14%
2025: 57.14% (Add Sanders and Konanbanny and it goes to 60.8%)
2026: 100% (haha)

The Blue Chip ratio for the whole team is:
2024: 46%
2025: (projected) 55% based off of expected 2025 class
2026: (projected)>55% based off of increasingly productive recruiting-Including #1 Faizon Brandon

Watch out. Vols are moving into that favorable Blue Chip Ratio!

This. We are on fire in recruiting right now...and the highest rated players we landed picked us directly over UGA, Bama, OSU etc. This AD and staff has been nothing short of amazing.

That Pilot deal of $20MM+ per season on TOP of our NIL which already was setting the market is gonna make kids want to come to UT even more. We can offer the most $$$, the best atmosphere, a GREAT staff and a team that is clearly getting better every season in talent already. If we can stay healthy at key positions and win 9 games or more this season...we are gonna be in that "elite" upper echelon where UGA, Bama, OSU now occupy. Cant wait. GO VOLS

Blue chips being 4 and 5 star players.

I just love how sooo many on this board ridicule those of us that have "stars in our eyes" - you know the whole "as long as they play for TN, take hard coaching, and get coached up" - "stars don't matter" - crowd.

Recruiting "Blue Chip" players does matter significantly - it's how championships are won!
I can accept it as a measurement. But also don’t get too excited, one because the lowest 4 star counts as much as the highest 5 star 300 places higher, and WAY more than the highest 3 Star 1 place below him.

Two because as I posted a day or so ago, draft results are also facts to validate or refute the stars awarded. Last draft mid 40’s % 5 stars were drafted and like 22% of 4 stars were drafted. Obviously the stars were flawed since 80+ 4 stars were drafted BUT 130+ 3 stars were drafted. More than enough 4’s left on the board. They give you 3 stars as a default if you breath and know your coaches name. But the drafted 3 guys have to be 4 star misses. Tough gig rating guys primarily on what they did by their Jr year.

So it is a number, but bottom line it is Which 5.4&3 stars you sign. That takes a few years to get to the bottom line.

P.s. GA and Bama have been signing a higher percentage than average, but Ck the portal for their culls, not their fortune seekers, most of those have been 4’s Too. Ck the portal for upwardly mobile 3 star guys moving up to power 4/5??? OOPS.

SOOOOO. There you have it.

If Coach targets them early, I celebrate them regardless of star ranking. Post signing day surprises, I hold my breath till results are in. But taking shots at them signing day inherently lowers one’s fan coefficient. That is true close to 100 percent of the time. An option available to every fan. Kind of like a player intentionally fumbling. There is a cost to classless venting, and should be. Posts become facts too, just like signing day star rankings.

Yeah. It’s like what if a team had the best players at the most key positions 🙄.

Like QB (Newton)
DT (Farley)

If only Tennessee adopted such methods…..

Lmao thats a pretty tall order, expecting Nico to have a "Cam Newton" level impact! I think we're setting our expectations just a TAD high. Hope it happens though!

Yep, it helps to use all of the data in the analysis, or the analysis is useless.
Yea, that’s why I like the 247 team roster talent rankings - it factors in transfers. But it’s still just a starting point for discussion. Team chemistry is huge and I like the culture Heupel has grown here.

While it’s great to have a more talented roster, experience has shown that having a physically talented QB who can also see the field at game speed and adjust quickly will move a team up ahead of the their overall talent rankings. We’ve had some QBs who just made the team better - Hooker and Dobbs in the last decade.Unfortunately we’ve also suffered with some QBs who made a talented team play worse - Guarantano Is the most recent example of how a bad QB can doom a talented roster.

I‘m glad our roster talent level is better this year but I'm really glad Nico is our QB because I believe he has the ability to see the field and read the D quickly like a Dobbs or a Hooker or. Manning.

Go and look at the recruiting rankings of the teams that played for the BCS championships (Including UT) and you will see mostly top ranked teams. Go and look at all the teams that have been in the 4 team playoffs and the NC games and you will see top ranked recruiting classes. You will see a TCU from a few years back that's not....but they also lost by 60 points.

You aren't wrong, but it is kinda crazy how the majority of the NFL is made up of 2 and 3 star guys.

Numbers game....A hell of a lot more lower ranked players. There are fewer 4 stars and a lot fewer 5 stars. If you looked at the percentages of 4 and 5 star players that make the NFL that pretty much tales the tale.

Am I missing something or did the article fail to say which rating website that it used to make this study?

Nice write up. I’m unimpressed with the article, not your post. I expect that the AP preseason poll or the coach’s poll would narrow the prediction down even closer than the top 15. When’s the last time someone who wasn’t preseason top 10 won the national title?

Saban is gone and the underdogs will have their day again.
I certainly know of one time that happened. A little year called 1998!

-A legislated fine of $5,000 plus 3% of the entire football budget
-Five years of probation.
-Reduction of 28 football scholarships throughout the probationary period, with a minimum of two scholarships per year.
-Reduction of 36 football official visits during the probationary period, including at least four visits per year. Tennessee will prohibit official visits for a total of 10 regular-season home games, four of which must involve SEC opponents.
-Reduction of 40 weeks for football unofficial visits during the probationary period, with a minimum of six weeks per year. Tennessee will prohibit unofficial visits for 10 regular-season home games, including four against SEC opponents.
-A 28-week ban on recruiting communications during the probationary period, including at least three weeks per year. This includes one week each in December and January, and one week between March and June.
-reduction of 120 evaluation days throughout the probationary period.
Maybe I’m wrong but I didn’t read any of the posts to which you replied as being negative towards the Vols. They’re just sharing stats. Heupel has done an amazing job, even before this insane run of recruiting that we haven’t seen in a long time. I’m sure there are some negative folks and posts out there as there’s always a faction in every fan base but I don’t think it’s Brave and the others to whom you replied. We’re going to have a great year and even better future! Let’s all enjoy this ride as we’ve certainly experienced the opposite. Go Vols!

I think we do get to 10 wins, but we'll need a bowl victory to get us there. Unless Nico is the second coming of Cam Newton, I don't see us winning more than 9 regular season games.
Pretty reasonable expectation. However, if we manage to beat Oklahoma in Norman, 10 regular season wins becomes very possible, even likely.

Yea, a little less than 10% of scholarship football players are 4/5 stars…

Agree but this maybe the last season that Tennessee is under 46%. Heupel is starting to pick up the players. I would still love for him to grab a 5 star in our secondary or a 5 star Running back. I feel like the secondary and runningback core could use a stud.

Who says he needs to?
I didn't say that 🤔

I said we're recruiting the best players at key positions.

You totally ignored the 3 star Joe Burrow comment I made.

Your reliance on recruiting sites rankings is absolutely ridiculous.
You're a grown man! Use your brain!!
How the hell are you even talking about this and the transfer portal players aren't even included?!

By the way, this crap helps explain why we have so much trouble with Florida.

Florida has sucked balls the last 3 years and yet they still have a higher blue chip ratio than Tennessee currently.

Who says we don't have a stud at RB??

Peyton Lewis is 6'1 210 runs 4.3, how is this not considered good enough?

Do you know how many 5 stars Dylan Sampson has outperformed??!

We could be at damn 40% blue chup ratio and still have the best team because we have the best QB and the best offensive and defensive lines in college football.

No it doesn't because they still lost to other teams with lower blue chip ratios!!!

What is wrong with you all???

Burrow had unreal talent around him! We're not chopped liver, but that LSU team is one of the most talented teams of all time. It's up there with 90's Nebraska and early 00's Miami.
So he was Top 5 NFL draft pick because he "talent around him"???

Dude did you watch him play!?

My God....
