Do people actually think Cheek will be fired based on performance of the football program?

Mainly he does not give a flip about football. If you listen to Doug Mathews Sunday he expessed all the history of how student athelete management went from the atheltic department to the academics side(CHEEK) and it needs to be moved back.

The only thing Jimmy the Cheek cares about is how much $$$ he can put into his wallet at the expense of UT.

Actually some decisions will be made regarding athletics:

These items are on the agenda:

"Performance and retention plan for executive officers"

"Amendment of the UT-UTFI affiliation and services agreement to change the reporting line for athletics departments personnel at UT Knoxville"

UT Board of Trustees Holds Fall Meeting Nov. 8-9 in Knoxville

No one in the athletic department is an executive officer. These are the Chief Officers and Vice Presidents of the University.

Vice Presidents & Chief Officers

Dr. David Millhorn
Executive Vice President and Vice President for Research and Economic Development

Anthony Haynes
Vice President for Government Relations

Linda Hendricks
Chief Human Resources Officer

Dr. Mary Jinks
Vice President of Public Service

Catherine S. Mizell
General Counsel and Secretary

Johnnie Ray
Vice President for Development and Alumni Affairs

Charles M. Peccolo
Treasurer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Investment Officer

Theotis Robinson
Vice President for Equity and Diversity

Dr. Katie High
Interim Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Success

Dr. Keith Carver
Executive Assistant to the President

Executive Officers lead the entire UT system (all campuses, institutes, etc.). UT Knoxville is one campus in the system. As most know, Cheek is head of the campus, not the university. Be careful about supporting the moving of athletics to the President/University-wide system. While maybe not currently contemplated, it might be a slippery slope to an eventual consolidation of the campus athletic departments across the system, potentially meaning the currently separate UTK, UTC, UTM athletic departments being merged into a single, central department. Just observing, not saying it going to happen.
