As a Vol fan, I don't like saying it, but I think Crean can coach circles around Pearl.

If Indiana wanted Pearl, they'd have already gone after him. I think Crean's going to be there for a long time.

You maybe right, but I don't think that they were stupid enough to go after him after what Sampson had done to their program. Clean Crean is what they needed after that. I also think that Crean's success at Marquette could have been the case of the Big East and their talent pool. Crean's a good coach, but he doesn't light the fire under the team and fan base like Pearl does.

ummm, the fan base is behind Crean about 12,398% at IU.

are you saying that IU needs a fire lit under its fan base? They don't need a motivational marketing type. They need a recruiter and coach. They have that.

really? Tom Crean as a spot filler for Bruce Pearl?

on Bruce Pearl's best day he wouldn't be a spot filler for Tom Crean.

Crean's a good coach, but he's not the coach that Indiana needs. Indiana needs that colorful coach that can motivate even the most negative person into believing in the program. Crean just doesn't have that personality, IMO.

Are you confusing Indiana with Alabama?

that's laughable.

EDIT: that's well beyond laughable.

I have family members that have followed IU B-Ball for years and they say that it's pretty blan right now. They think it will change, but they miss the personality that a Knight brought to the program.

of course it's bland. They have no scholarship players and are getting killed at every turn.

Miles Brand can be thanked for the whole affair.

If you have ever lived in Indiana, like I have, you would understand what I am trying to say. I'm not knocking him as a coach, but I just don't believe his personality is what Indiana needs.

i know around 2500 different IU fans and I'm not exaggerating that number. I've talked to over 1k of them and all are on board with Crean and know that this season was a wash from the get go. They are all excited to get a solid X and O's coach who will recruit and get them the players they need without putting them into any legal troubles.

Oh, no doubt about that. I just see this whole situation as a way to stay clean and keep the NCAA off of their backs for a few years. I just don't see Crean as the key stone they need. That's just my opinion though.

Someone with a personality like Pearl's. Trust me, Indiana isn't that positive of a place right now. In fact, everytime I visit my relatives, I feel like I need counseling when I get back to TN. It's just not a positive place right now, just like a lot of places aren't.

I hope they are right and I hope they get their wish. Crean's a good coach, but I just don't think he fits there.

agree to disagree. They'd be foolish to hire a marketing manager like Pearl.

that's why random fans show up in the hundreds to see Crean at every speaking engagement he goes to.

I never said he didn't have support, I just said he didn't have the motivational personality that Indiana needs. I'm sure he has all the support in the world, I just think that he won't be at IU past 4 years. I think he would like to go back to the Big East. The Big Ten maybe the 4th best B-Ball conference right now as is.

His opening line at the IU press conference bringing him in says otherwise. So do his roots.

Crean is considered a PR gold mine.

Pearl is a motivator for his players? When is he going to motivate his team to play good defense?

this is too baffling for me to let go. He's having to go through possibly IU's worst season ever his first year there thanks to the imbeciles that were over the program before him yet he still has the fan base behind him in overwhelming numbers and according to several he's bringing in a top ten recruiting class, yet he's not the motivational personality the school needs? What else is he supposed to be able to do? Maybe he can drive down to Monroe Lake and part the waters?
