as i have stated before, bob stoops is a respectable coach. he is not a great coach. his oklahoma teams often make it to a bcs game but seldom win. if he coaches in a more competitive conference, such as the sec, no way is he winning the conference championships that he wins in the big 12. all he has to do now is beat mack brown and he's there. carroll, saban, cutcliffe, peterson, and now add a coachless west virginia team to the list of whippings that he has received of late in bowl games. put him in the sec and he's a young thinner cpf.

Good point as of late. He has lost his last 3 or 4 bowl games. Right now. I think Jim Tressel is at the top of my coaches list followed by Pete Carroll.

There's a difference in losing to top competition and losing to Penn State, Clemson, and Maryland.

he lost to ole miss and boise state and gets beat down by top competition. texas tech and colorado also beat them this year.

And yet, he beat a good Missouri team to win the conference. What happened after we lost to Bama? We lost to a depleted LSU team.

yet we beat a good georgia team. this thread is about bob stoops being overrated, not about how bad or good the vols are.

Someone said he'd be a thinner version of Phil Fulmer. I was merely showing the divergence the teams those two men led took after disappointing losses. One earned a championship.

He lost to Ole Miss in 1999, with a 7-4 team IN HIS FIRST YEAR after years of 5-6, 4-8, and 3-8.

if stoops coached in the sec and he had to coach against top coaches week end week out, his conference championship record wouldn't be any better than cpf. i wasn't by any means comparing oklahoma's year to tennessee's.

Stoops wouldn't win the SEC as frequently as he wins the Big 12. He also wouldn't go ten years without winning it.

Richt has 2 SEC titles in 7 years. Stoops is better than Richt.

Genius! Of course, I wouldn't expect you to actually put the loss into perspective.

my perspective was put in my first post. why wouldn't you expect me to put it in perspective, i normally do. i am just putting my opinion out there. if you don't agree, disagree. no need to insult.

Meanwhile back at the Ranch. He is Overrated and talks to much. Did they not get into a NC after losing the big 12 championship several years ago. Was he the Coach then.

I blame Corso and ESPN for talking a lot of these overrated coaches up. Stoops is one.

No matter what you think of Stoops - his teams this year and last year showed up at a BCS game flat and sloppy.

No doubt about it. His bowl preparation seems to be lacking.

However, there aren't 4 better coaches in America.

These coaching threads crack me up. All good coaches win and lose these type games.

Richt always get mentioned as 2 SECC's in "x" years. Well, he's only been their 7 years. If he doesn't win it in the next 2 years is he still such a great coach? It's not like he'll suddenly get worse but his record will look quite different
