bob stoops is still overrated.

OU hadn't had a winning season since 1993 before Stoops took over. OU has tons of tradition, but it's not like Georgia, LSU, Auburn, etc don't.

OU has a stronger/longer tradition in football than those 3 teams. The fact that they were down for a period doesn't change that.

he did a good job of getting them turned back around but he's still not the top 5 coach that the media would have you think that he is. a coach can have a ring and still not be great, i think we all know that.

I know that. It's not an auto success, either. Alabama and Nebraska have proven that.

SMU has a lot of tradition. I don't see them rising to prominence anytime soon as a result.

You're right - I can't possibly think on my own and only form opinions on what the media tells me. You, O Great One, are the only one who can see through the BS.

A little condescending assumption from you, good sir.

What is a better sample size? The 6 BCS bowl games he's coached (2-4) or the other hundred games he's coached?

You are comparing OU and SMU in terms of football tradition?

I just don't think tradition factors in that much. OU has a tradition as a football powerhouse, as does UGA. I don't think tradition gives OU an advantage over Georgia.

what? you carry a little chip on the shoulder, don't you. i was only pointing out once more that the media puts him on a higher pedestal than is deserved. i am sure that your opinions are your own. settle down.

It's about the program - from the top administration on down and where they see football fitting. OSU, OU, UA, Michigan, USC, etc. have it in spades. The other top SEC schools including UT have more than most but a great program year after year is about more than the coach. Stoops, Carroll and Tressel are all assisted by their programs and their status.

I'd be willing to bet Georgia not only has more all time wins than OU, but also invests more money in the football program.

Edit: I was wrong. OU is 8th all-time in wins. UGA is 10th. Not that much difference.

Not sure about that - I know which one has more of a tradition of championship football for the last 60 or 70 years though.

Spending more doesn't make a more successful program. OU knows how to do it better than UGA (or at least has to this point in time).

OU has 7 national championships spanning the 50s (3), 70s (2), 80s (1) and 2000.

UGA has 2 (1942, 1980)

OU has 50+ more total wins than UGA

I was decently familiar with all that when I made the first post. I don't think the difference is enough to give OU an advantage. It's not like UGA is South Carolina or something. They are well-known nationally for being a serious football program, just like OU.
