bob stoops is still overrated.

OU has 7 national championships spanning the 50s (3), 70s (2), 80s (1) and 2000.

UGA has 2 (1942, 1980)

OU has 50+ more total wins than UGA

georgia's tradition before richt was basically herschel walker and the first couple of years of the 80's. speaking of overrated coaches, vince dooley always comes to mind.

They've been good at football for some time. They haven't had a lot of NC's.

I was decently familiar with all that when I made the first post. I don't think the difference is enough to give OU an advantage. It's not like UGA is South Carolina or something. They are well-known nationally for being a serious football program, just like OU.

Were you familiar with SMU? :)

I think the advantage is clear. Although it was hardly the SEC, especially a SEC that featured a competitive Vanderbilt, the Big 8 was a damn good conference back in the day, and Oklahoma stood foursquare.

if stoops coached in the sec and he had to coach against top coaches week end week out, his conference championship record wouldn't be any better than cpf. i wasn't by any means comparing oklahoma's year to tennessee's.

Stoops did coach in the SEC....and funny thing...he won a NC there as well...overrated no.

Some organizations have an edge - it's no coincidence that some programs have been good throughout the decades.

UGA is clearly a strong program but OU is in the elite group.

5th in winning % is significantly better than 12th. Kinda like being ranked 5th vs 12th (like UT will likely be this year!)

Stoops is good but overrated in my opinion. He chose to stay at OU because he was smart enough to not want to get entangled in the SEC. He has lost 2 BCS games in a row to an underdog.

it was oklahoma and nebraska every year until the late 80's and early 90's when colorado came on. but for years just those two teams.

Oooh oooh oooh, I would!

why? if we made it to the big game, then we would just get an a** whippin like oklahoma does. doubtful that we would get there, however. then we would be on here going through our coaching wish list like we do now.

I can't think of a coach in America that wouldn't have made the same choice. He restored an elite program to greatness. Why leave to start another project?

Beating the crap out of #1 Missouri in the Big 12 Championship I think would qualify as performing well in a big game.

He's getting to the game! I do think he's a top coach. It would be hard to find someone better and Fulmer is about done.

I didn't say anyone else would. That is what makes OU and Michigan great jobs among college football. Big fanbase, financial support, tradition and knowing the conference usually boils down to about 2 teams. The SEC is a meat grinder. A coach can sit at OU and rack up Big 12 titles.

I should have explained better in my previous post. I think even if the SEC were not a meat grinder, (even if it were weaker than the Big 12) I think Stoops would have made the same choice he did.
