Bonaroo 2011

Just took a look at Van Halen's tour dates. They have a one-week hole in their tour schedule from June 5 - June 12. Bonnaroo falls in between.

Take it to the bank, Van Halen is playing Bonnaroo.

Well, that blows.

Not arguing, just wondering why you think so? I get that they're an 80s hair band, but I think the diversity is great. The Roo hasn't had anyone quite like them. The Police are the closest I can think of, but only because of the time frame of relevancy. If you're not interested, it's cool. The best times at Bonnaroo are not at What Stage watching the HLs, though. It's in the tents, Which, and at the What during the daytime, IMO.

Anyway, what's wrong with a little Eruption?

It's simple, I hate David Lee Roth. He's the most talentless egomaniac I've ever seen. Aside from that, Van Halen just wouldn't be that great in a festie environment. The Police have that awesome reggae/pop sound, though. I loved seeing them at B-roo.

However, Eruption would be worth seeing. EVH is a pretty good guitarist and that song is DLR-free.

I agree with you about the smaller stages though. Luckily, I'm a hot weather kind of guy, so daytime is always the best. That's before all the goodies kick in at night ;-)

I hear ya...

FWIW, it appears that the answer to the first Roo Cloo was the band Mogwai. I don't know much about them, but will check out their stuff this weekend.

VAn Halen will be a great headliner at Bonnaroo. Tons of great songs. I do agree with you guys though. I don't even have to see the lineup before I make my decision. I spend most of my time at the "tents" and the Which stage

If you've never heard of Inforoo, it is the Bonnaroo equivalent of VN. Anyway, last night, the infamous user named "insider" appeared and started revealing information about the lineup. "Insider" has been "leaking" lineup information on Inforoo for a number of years and has never been wrong in the prediction. In all likelihood, this person works for AC Entertainment and is instructed to leak the information leading up to the big lineup announcement. In fact, Insider is so accurate, music media has quoted this information in online blogs and articles in the past.

So, last night Insider revealed that Phish would be at Roo XI and that "at least one of" the following would be in attendance: Foo Fighters, RHCP, Radiohead, and The Beach Boys. The "at least one of" statement came in response to a user who asked if any of those four bands would be present at Roo this year.

Additionally, Consequence of Sound is reporting that David Bowie might be at Bonnaroo this year.

The full lineup should drop here in the next 3-4 weeks.

Now the headliners speculation is:

Radiohead
Red Hot Chili Peppers
Phish

Could be among the strongest lineups ever for Bonnaroo, if that's the case.

Avett Brothers and Foster The People are likely to be there. Civil Wars are also rumored. This year's lineup is going to be as good a lineup they've ever had. Lineup for 'Roo 2012 drops on February 14.

Also, the Hangout Fest lineup drops tonight at midnight.

Fortunately, I'm seeing RHCP and Radiohead before Bonnaroo, so if this is true then I REALLY don't have a reason to go.

All Good here I come!

So the undercard never appeals to you?

It does, but it's not worth actually going to Bonnaroo. It's too big now and it's cost me a third of the spending to attend other festies.

'roo's laden with too many bad acts, too many people, and too few 1$ grilled cheese stands.

I don't agree with your bad acts statement, but generally agree that the amount of people and increasing costs are legit. There are three factors, in my opinion, that dissuade people from going to Bonnaroo: 1.) Money, (2.) Crowds, and (3.) climate. You're definitely going to spend a lot of $$ going to 'Roo.

My first year was in 2003 I sold lemonade and pretzels at a stand at the main stage and Centeroo and actually got paid to be there, but I didn't get the full experience and haven't done it since. Food and drink costs have grown significantly since the start, and that's a shame. Tickets are expensive enough, then you have the cost of supplies and gas to get there. Pile it up and you're talking serious $$.

The crowds are horrendous and that turns people off, but I have to tell you that this appeals to me personally. The crowds are always, always friendly and big crowds add to the experience, in my opinion. No one likes to go to an empty Neyland Stadium, and I don't like going to a concert with no energy.

My biggest complaint is that they need to do something to provide more shade and add a few more water stations. The Tennessee heat in June is pretty oppressive and there is very, very little shade at Bonnaroo. There are few trees and the tents get so hot with all the people packed in, it's a perfect recipe for heat casualties. I had to carry some random chick that collapsed from heat exhaustion to a first aid tent last year. If I had to critique Bonnaroo on one failure as a festival, that would be it. Most of the time, though, I find that most people that have issues just aren't being smart. I've never had a problem, but you get young kids there, they're going to partake of "party favors" and libations, and forget all about the important stuff, like food and water.

Anyway, I love Roo and will go every year as long as it stays like it is now. Dinkin, hope you enjoy your festival tour this year, wherever you might be going. I'm considering the Hangout, too. About to pull the trigger on it next week, I think.

Absolutely stoked about the Avetts. My #1 priority this year.

As far as the acts go, I've just found that there are fewer artists I'm interested in seeing each year. Had it not been for Primus, Neil Young, The Black Keys, and Atmosphere... last year would have killed me. There was too much dubstep, house electronica, and too many jam bands... not to mention Lil Wayne.

You make a good point... I think there are 8 trees in Centeroo? The water's nasty and the lines are waaaay long. The bathroom situation was an absolute disaster this year, as were the showers. The food prices went up even further... you know it's real messed up when you can pay less for a chillum than a got damned corn dog.

I was next to the camp sector where they found the girl passed out dead in her tent... I know 3 deaths in 110,000-120,000 people isn't much, but I've been to plenty of festies... it was hardest to get necessary supplies when away from camp at 'roo. It's unethical that I couldn't bring my camelpack into centeroo.

Anyway, Hangout's in my top choices right now. I'm looking at that as well as AllGood, Waka, and Rothbury. When the lineups hit, we can do a roll call thread for the major festies!

Jack White was officially announced for Hangout as of about an hour ago. Rest of the Hangout lineup drops next week.

I tried my best to make the dope prices go up by causing a shortage. How did I do? Made more dope busts that week than I did for the entire previous 2 months.

I'll be in the blackhawk hovering over your head.

You probably indirectly funded my Bonnaroo last year.

MONOPOLY!

Good for you. I have some news for you though: you're delusional if you think you, singularly, caused prices to go up.

I sure hope you don't make it a habit of persecuting recreational users who are otherwise responsible and classy law abiding citizens.

Some people don't have anything better to do. Sucks for them.
