Well, that blows.
Not arguing, just wondering why you think so? I get that they're an 80s hair band, but I think the diversity is great. The Roo hasn't had anyone quite like them. The Police are the closest I can think of, but only because of the time frame of relevancy. If you're not interested, it's cool. The best times at Bonnaroo are not at What Stage watching the HLs, though. It's in the tents, Which, and at the What during the daytime, IMO.
Anyway, what's wrong with a little Eruption?
It's simple, I hate David Lee Roth. He's the most talentless egomaniac I've ever seen. Aside from that, Van Halen just wouldn't be that great in a festie environment. The Police have that awesome reggae/pop sound, though. I loved seeing them at B-roo.
However, Eruption would be worth seeing. EVH is a pretty good guitarist and that song is DLR-free.
I agree with you about the smaller stages though. Luckily, I'm a hot weather kind of guy, so daytime is always the best. That's before all the goodies kick in at night ;-)
It does, but it's not worth actually going to Bonnaroo. It's too big now and it's cost me a third of the spending to attend other festies.
'roo's laden with too many bad acts, too many people, and too few 1$ grilled cheese stands.
I don't agree with your bad acts statement, but generally agree that the amount of people and increasing costs are legit. There are three factors, in my opinion, that dissuade people from going to Bonnaroo: 1.) Money, (2.) Crowds, and (3.) climate. You're definitely going to spend a lot of $$ going to 'Roo.
My first year was in 2003 I sold lemonade and pretzels at a stand at the main stage and Centeroo and actually got paid to be there, but I didn't get the full experience and haven't done it since. Food and drink costs have grown significantly since the start, and that's a shame. Tickets are expensive enough, then you have the cost of supplies and gas to get there. Pile it up and you're talking serious $$.
The crowds are horrendous and that turns people off, but I have to tell you that this appeals to me personally. The crowds are always, always friendly and big crowds add to the experience, in my opinion. No one likes to go to an empty Neyland Stadium, and I don't like going to a concert with no energy.
My biggest complaint is that they need to do something to provide more shade and add a few more water stations. The Tennessee heat in June is pretty oppressive and there is very, very little shade at Bonnaroo. There are few trees and the tents get so hot with all the people packed in, it's a perfect recipe for heat casualties. I had to carry some random chick that collapsed from heat exhaustion to a first aid tent last year. If I had to critique Bonnaroo on one failure as a festival, that would be it. Most of the time, though, I find that most people that have issues just aren't being smart. I've never had a problem, but you get young kids there, they're going to partake of "party favors" and libations, and forget all about the important stuff, like food and water.
Anyway, I love Roo and will go every year as long as it stays like it is now. Dinkin, hope you enjoy your festival tour this year, wherever you might be going. I'm considering the Hangout, too. About to pull the trigger on it next week, I think.
Absolutely stoked about the Avetts. My #1 priority this year.
I tried my best to make the dope prices go up by causing a shortage. How did I do? Made more dope busts that week than I did for the entire previous 2 months.
I'll be in the blackhawk hovering over your head.
:birgits_giggle:
Good for you. I have some news for you though: you're delusional if you think you, singularly, caused prices to go up.
I sure hope you don't make it a habit of persecuting recreational users who are otherwise responsible and classy law abiding citizens.
