Bowers Having Surgery

This is the surgery that Bryce Young and Cedric Tillman had. I think that 4-6 weeks seem optimistic for a TE. I wonder how likely he is to push it with a high NFL draft pick already locked up.
thats my thought as well... he may not be back at all this season since he's going pro next year. Why risk that re-injury

It's voluntary surgery for a (high) sprained ankle. With a good tape job he could be back in half that time or less, and I'm speaking from experience.
I'm not sure that applies to guys with an NFL career waiting at the other end. I'm betting they didn't worry as much about a second injury playing at the next level for you like they apparently do for Brock and did for Bryce and Tillman.

It appears that Bowers has a high-ankle sprain and underwent tightrope surgery.
Looks like he will miss some games- minimum of three weeks. Cedric Tillman was out six weeks last season after a similar procedure.
Hate it for him. I still hate Georgia.

Maybe you are correct, and if an athlete wants to have surgery it's his choice, and I have no issue with that. I've always been one to trust my body to heal itself though when surgery wasn't absolutely required. It worked for the 26+ years of my rugby career with no detrimental affects. I can also count on both hands how many rugby matches I've missed due to injuries. As a qualifier though, I was always lucky bad injuries, like broken ankles, wrists, etc., that required surgery usually happened right at season's end giving me 3 months to get well before the next season started.

dude's got 2 nattys already and he's a potential top 10 pick. he should probably rehab carefully/slowly and get ready for bowl season and combine. and for the record, i'm not saying that because i hope we don't have to play against him. i'd like them and us at our healthiest come nov.

This is a biddness decision. He has nothing to prove and the right call is to shut it down and get ready for the NFL combine.

For someone who has little left to prove in college, and has the brightest of NFL futures ahead of him, it wouldn’t bother me one bit if he decided to shut it down.

And I’d be of that opinion if he wasn’t a Georgia Bulldog.
I agree 100% with you. It might have been a tad easier decision for you (us) BECAUSE he's a Georgia Bulldog.

I agree. He should shut it down. Hes a lock for a top 10 pick and likely top 4

I get it. I'm nowhere near suggesting he HAD to have the surgery for the high ankle sprain. I feel certain several extremely talented sports medicine orthopedists weighed in on the options for Bowers.

The bulk of his career is in front of him and I think high ankle sprains are notorious for creating career issues in the past. I assume with the high profile "tightrope" surgeries that the "projected outcome" is better for his career and I believe it's said recovery is quicker than previous ankle sprain surgery techniques.

With Bowers, unless GA is playing for a Natty and they really, REALLY need him to win, I'd never play another snap in college. That's just me. Bowers is a beast and probably a very tough, determined kid.

I think he could come back if UGA is in Atlanta. I’d be surprised if his ankle will be ready for Knoxville, though it’s far too early to tell.

He could easily shut it down, though. He has nothing left to prove. Something tells me he wants back on the field, but that’s little more than wishful thinking now.

UGA enjoyed decent injury luck in the last two years. Not this year: Bowers out maybe the rest of the year; number 1 WR severely limited; top OT out since S.Car.; top 3 RBs each missing multiple games (one out for the year); multiple other OL/TEs missing multiple games. Ain’t nobody gonna cry for UGA (nor should they) and injuries are a part of the game, but it’s a lot on one side of the ball.
He will probably back for Yech

Just saw that Bowers will be undergoing surgery for his ankle. This type of surgery has a 4-6 week recovery time. Wish him the best....I also want to beat Georgia.

Really hate that for him and Georgia. I feel like we could beat them at home if we play our best game. No doubt it will be easier if he’s not on the field though. Georgia looks beatable.
