Bowl Game or Hot Seat?

CBJ's seat wouldn't even be slightly warm with another 5-7 season. He's getting AT LEAST 3 years, and probably 4.

Minimum of 5 whether we like it or not and he is going to need every bit of it. I have little doubt that he will succeed though. It would be foolish to even consider a change until his recruits reach their senior season and reach their potential. That will occur in year 5. The good news being we should see increasingly better football on the way up, although probably not quickly enough for some, and it will be a great deal of fun to watch the progress.

Should CBJ be on the hot seat if we don't make a bowl this year? Absolutely not. He walked into a serious rebuilding project where year two has the potential to be worse than year one(new line on both sides, no established QB)

As far as how long it will take Tennessee to be "back" that depends entirely on what you mean. We should expect a bowl game by year 3(which is not back) and we should expect to compete for SEC East and January bowl games by year 5. Anything better than that and we will be lucky, anything worse and we should have some concerns. Just my 2cents.

It's gonna take Butch a while to rebuild this mess. Do you know how UT got into this mess? There was a weak Athletic Director who listened to idiotic ideas like the one which led to this thread and fired a Hall of Fame coach and replaced him with back to back losers.

Butch has won every where he has been. Give him time.

There is no way to get around it. Tennessee fans as a whole will be very disappointed in a 5-7 or worse season in 2014. We can all talk logically right now but as football season begins to inch closer and closer, expectations will increase. And that's the way it should be at Tennessee.

I think Butch gets the job done but I'm not gonna fool myself or anyone else into thinking 5-7 is good enough any year. Hot seat? Probably not but it's not gonna be all peaches and rainbows either.

CBJ deserves at least 3 (if not 4) years - to see how this incredible class works out (similar to Dooley who deserved to see how Hunter, D Rogers, and his o-line work out when they were at least juniors). Due to losing too much Dooley however could not maintain recruiting momentum - same could be a problem for CBJ if he has another losing season.
However if CBJ wins more than expected this year (i.e. 8+ W's) the momentum will pick up even more - then once things get rolling in the positive direction he could be here for next 20 years (best case scenario). I personally can't wait to see how they will coach up these recruits (I have had doubts about Jancek and Bajakian but now they will have their own recruits that hopefully fit their schemes so let's see if they can do a better job than during their first year).

That's ludicrous. ...unless we had a pure embarrassed record. ..theres gonna be ups and downs in a rebuilding process this deep. I hate to think of selling mediocrity in the W column but CBJ gets full contact in my book. Such a wonderful person to represent this state and university. ..he embodies what it feels like to be a real Vol fan....
I couldn't be more proud of him as our head coach....I honestly feel like he is creating a special place here in Knoxville. ...and I hope he get plenty of time to win his war
