Bowl Game or Hot Seat?

I don't know precisely, as I've not read or studied anything along those lines specifically. What I can say is that having studied overall performance in relation to talent I would say that raw talent is preferable to an experienced but less talented player. In general terms, I'll take a team of freshman four star players over a team of senior two star players if you are examining the outcome of a series of events and everything else being equal.

Hmmm.. don't know about that. A 4* frosh team still has a lot of maturing to do. Boys to men, some will be busts and all that. And they'll be playing experienced senior 2* ... men. And several of those 2* will always have been 'coached up' to much better capabilities, as of course some will not have the capability of increasing their skills.

Off the cuff, I'd just have to disagree with you, unless of course you have links to statistical proof; and if you do please provide them (for football not bb) because this is a topic that seems to come up quite a lot.

Bowl game is a must, if not a few assistant coaches might need to pack their bags. 5 losing seasons at Tennessee should NOT happen at all. At this point it is about Top Notch coaching getting this talent to a bowl game. Win that game and recruiting will be back where it should be for years to come. Don't make a bowl and have a losing season and it will be very, very difficult to recruit the way they did this year again.

So what happens if bUTch & co. don't get a bowl this year? New OC & DC? We really haven't seen what they can do with competitive 2 deep talent they've coached up. The roster is still a mishmash of players and talent recruited for different offensive and defensive systems. Look what happened to Vaindy's class after the coaching change. Last in the SEC. But we have a great 2015 class in the making. Change coaches and it would be a ga-run-tee of lost recruits and transferring players and more years of mediocrity, or worse.

I am all in now, but wonder how things might change if we don't make to a bowl game this season.
Not turning at all on CBJ, but excuses this season may wear thin. If we're 5-7 again, will slogans fall on deaf ears?

I'd say we make a minor bowl this year. Next year a bigger bowl like Cotton or Peach or Citrus. And 2 years we'll be competing for SEC and NC game.

i didn't mean a Bowl game in 5 years, they may well not get to one this year is what i meant, who knows ?

he has a hell of a class of recruits coming in,and as we all know, that usually takes em a couple of years to develop into becoming good players in the SEC

I think it will take him 4 more years to get to playing good consistent football for the Vols,it could happen sooner and may well happen, but i don't look for many improvements till 2015,then start looking for Bowl games and for better ones afterward

I agree with you. The one thing that could swing it would be the emergence of a dynamic playmaker at the QB position. IMO, that was why there was no bowl game this past season. I hope somebody emerges.

This is Tennessee Football. We need to win 6 games this season. Period....."fans like me"????
I was and I am grateful for CBJ taking the job, regardless.
My post DID NOT say "FIRE JONES IF HE DOESNT GET TO A BOWL".........
Answer this for me... If we do not go to bowl game this season, will the pressure to win 6 games in 2015 be extreme (for WHOEVER is the coach)?
Or should it take...as many of you kids say...4, thats FOUR years to get to the Music City Bowl?

He can be here as long as Fulmer. Fulmer was never a great X's and O's guy but he brought in top 5 talent for along time. He could of stayed longer had he not become complacent in his recruiting. He kept throwing talent out there and eventually found the ring. I see Butch doing the same thing! Coordinators might change here and there, but I feel like the ship is not taking on water anymore and now we can worry about hammering down on the throttle! GoVOLS!!

Another very tough schedule and a very young team. We will once again be playing a lot of freshman this year, however this group of freshman are way more talented than in the past. Having 14 EE's goes a long way to helping mature this class early, but no telling really until the pads and lights come on. I personally think we surprise a few teams this year and get to 6-7 wins and a bowl game.

I think it all depends. If Butch shows continued progress in building the program, I don't think he'll be on the hotseat for another 5-7 season. Year #3 and Year #4 will be the important ones.

Remember, Jim Harbaugh went 4-8 and 5-7 in his first two seasons at Stanford; but anyone who followed the program closely could see that he was bringing in great talent and developing the players well. It just took awhile to see the results on the field.

Conversely, Dooley went 6-7 and 5-7, but it really looked like we were regressing every week, our recruiting fell off, and the team quit way too much. So I think you really have to look deeper than the record to determine whether Jones is doing a good job, because sometimes, it takes awhile for results to follow.

Hoping we have surprise success next year, but so long as I continue to see progress, I will continue to be behind Butch. In 2015 and 2016, I think it will be much fairer to judge him based on his record.

Lot of question marks with this team. Offensive line, Quarterback, and Freshman kicker. Defensive line, Secondary will be young. SEC is tough. We will know soon enough how the season will go if we win the first two as expected we need to take Florida down in Knoxville. If we can't do that then we may be in for another 5 and 7 season.

Won't Bullock do some (or all) of the kicking this year?

2015 Bowl Game, 2016 win SECE, 2017 win SECCG. Expecting anything more than this is ludicrous. Remember 2014 is CBJ's first full recruiting class so that should equate to year one.

If not you will need to post a pic of the wagered testicle in a mason jar on VN.

If someone bet something worthwhile against me, I would

Left nut is worth at least 10k...

So 10k against my left nut, anyone want in?

I have never priced one. Get Lawgator or one of the resident attorneys to give you a worker's comp value. Sounds like a painful item to wager.

Last year was year zero. That sounds vaguely familiar.

I am just that confident in this staff and the caliber of players they are bringing in.

We are starting to get the kind of players that will refuse to lose, not just refuse to give up.

Talent/Integrity/Drive something we have been lacking.

With how close we came to Beating a couple of these other teams with what we had, Now that we have the good "stuff"... it is once again going to be Tennessee Football :loco:

As I stated, I am just going with my gut for that statement. I have studied the relationship between recruited "stars" and wins. There is an almost direct correlation.

There are exceptions, of which you named some (coaching up, busts, etc). People tend to make too much of the exception, and not the rule. I get it. Life is more fun that way.
