SIAP, but according to my friends on the football team, CBJ has confidence in us being picked as a 5-7 team to play in a bowl game. He has told them to not count out the idea of them receiving bid. I know there are slim chances but I just found it interesting that Butch has confidence that they could still play ina bowl game.

Your friends on the football team are messing with you. And probably laughing at you. And possibly not really your friends.

If Jones is actually telling his team that, then he needs to look up the selection criteria, then the number of teams that are already eligible. If he were to do so, he'd see that UT is already eliminated from the selection process.

If he is telling them his, then I worry about his ability to run this team

After saying that, doubtful those words ever crossed his lips

This is more legit than y'all think. There is already a thread on this and they were discussing it on the Erik Ainge show the other day. If there aren't enough teams to fill the bowls that are allotted for SEC teams, the bowl can make the decision to either take a 6-6 team from another conference or a 5-7 team from the SEC. This was allowed as of August 2012.

As of right now we would be a likely 5-7 team to go. Especially since it's all about the money and Tennessee can sell out a stadium.

CBJ has moved on to recruiting and Team 118. Team 117 is the past-- and the staff is looking to the future. As they should be.

They have to take an eligible 6-6 team first. Since there are already more 6-6 teams than there are bowl slots, no bowl will get down the pecking order enough to take an eligible 5-7 team.

so technically a 5-7 team can go to a bowl but the circumstances are very rare....have to have a top 5 APR and no bowl eligible teams left. there are 70 bowl slots and currently 78 eligible teams, so sounds impossible this year from how i am reading it.

There will be quite a few 6-win teams with no bowl this year, so there will be no bowl for 5-7 teams. Anyone who thinks there is a greater than 0% chance of us getting a bowl this year has done no research beyond reading the rule about 5-7 teams getting picked.
