Just saying! :)

UCLA was granted a waiver in 2011 because they had a losing record only because USC was ineligible to play in the Pac12 Championship, so UCLA went in stead and lost to Oregon.

This has been discussed at nauseum. A 5-7 team can ONLY be invited to a bowl if there are NOT ENOUGH teams with a .500 record or better. Unless a team is ineligle due to sanctions the number I heard there is at least 70 teams that are at least .500 record to fill ALL bowl slots.

Yeah in their case the AA granted their appeal because they would be bowl eligible before any postseason including a conference title game. Can you imagine that discrepency had the AA not granted waiver either PAC12 Champs or no bowl at all. Lol

Here is something else to think about. Its well known that there are only 2 schools that have never lost 8 games. Can you imagine if we lost an 8th game in a bottom tier bowl and finished 3 games under .500. Lol

I hadn't thought of that.
Dragging a 5-7 team to weak bowl far away and losing would be a rough way to lose our membership in the Never Lost Eight Games Club. I think it's a cool stat to have. This is our worst period ever, it's the SEC's best period ever, and we've still been playing teams like Oregon. It's somewhat impressive that we keep stopping the bleeding at seven losses.

While I have to agree with the trolling part, I also have to say that, after playing the toughest schedule in the country, this team deserves to go bowling more than a few others. Of course, that's JMO.

There will be quite a few 6-win teams with no bowl this year, so there will be no bowl for 5-7 teams. Anyone who thinks there is a greater than 0% chance of us getting a bowl this year has done no research beyond reading the rule about 5-7 teams getting picked.

My understanding is it is possible because the SEC has 8 or 10 (sorry forgot which one) bowl tie ins.

The conference tie-ins become irrelevant after all the 6-6 or better teams in the conference are selected. The bowl then has to pick an at-large team according to the selection criteria that ends with 5-7 teams. So Tennessee is not a part of the SEC bowl tie-in this year, and won't get a chance to be an at-large pick.

I said there were slim chances. I just thought it was interesting that CBJ and the team have confidence to be picked as a 5-7 team. I was just passing along what I've heard.

They have to take an eligible 6-6 team first. Since there are already more 6-6 teams than there are bowl slots, no bowl will get down the pecking order enough to take an eligible 5-7 team.

This.

Not sure where the idea they could choose a 5-7 SEC team over a 6-6 non-SEC came from.

Saying they are slim is being extremely generous.

And I really hope they aren't confident, because if they do, I'm going to question his intelligence.

Not really. There are more 6-6 teams than bowl slots. Do the math.

Bowl games are about one thing. Money. Tennessee helps bring in a lot of it because we are the best fanbase in the nation. If you were just an unbiased football fan, would you rather watch Tennessee (5-7) play or Texas State (6-6)?

I'm not expecting us to get picked but I have a little more confidence in Butch knowing if we have a chance at getting picked than a bunch of couch coaches and a Bama fan

Yes, which has nothing to do with what the rule is.

The rule is the bowls HAVE to take a 6-6 FBS team over a 5-7 SEC team if any exist and aren't already in a bowl. They do not get to choose a 5-7 SEC team over a 6-6 non-SEC team.

As I said, do the math.
