I expect not to give up yards and points in record levels.
I expect not to be run out of the damn stadium before halftime regardless of the opponent.
I expect decent fundamentals in lining up properly and tackling.
I don't expect our DC to suddenly quit scraping our LBs to the outside to contain running QBs after it proved to help contain Shaw and USC.
I don't expect our D staff to leave our slow LBs in mid and deep coverage after it's apparent to the opposition that they can't hold coverage.
I don't expect our D staff to go conservative and give up 2 last minute game winning drives (and damn near another to USA) playing cover 2. If your gonna go down at least go down swinging with what got you there to start with. I'd rather see Sutton and Coleman in man coverage than go cover 2 with our LBs and Toney and Swaffords coverage skills.
I would loved to have seen more corner blitzes with Sutton, he was successful when we gave him the chance.
That's a few to start.
-having a decent offense would've helped that imo, on point one and point 2. I have those expectations as well, except when other teams have qb's, rb's, te's and wr's that are faster than anybody playing D, I realize what its like to be severely outmanned. NFL scouts have said this is the slowest UT D in memory, and the draft this year and next will prove it
-I thought when we got our pads on people that we tackled better than last year. I thought db's tackled better than last year. I don't recall us routinely lining up wrong on D. I recall communication issues, especially with Randolph out, but I see those every week.
-Not sure we scrapped the lb plan. I recall seeing lb spies on qb's against mizzou and Auburn where we were left in the dust.
-agree 100% on leaving lb's in space. I think we tried some blitzes to get pressure because jsmith was giving us none and left us in mismatches.
-agree on seeing more corner blitzes. Seems it worked well when we disguised and called it. Not so sure we ran cover 2 the entire last drive against Vandy. I would rather not see swafford, toney and probst on the field at the same time regardless.
Coaches weren't error free by any means, but we had guys in places to make plays quite often and didn't have the speed or instinct to make them. First one I recall is when UF backup comes in, keeps the ball from the 5 (going right to left on the tv), we have 3 guys waiting for him, he makes one move, nobody touches him and he walks in.
At least you can discuss your opinion, so props to you.
