Boycott ESPN

The networks talked down about Tennessee all year long, denigrated the fans and school at every turn, showed bias towards bama in the playoffs and now these a** clowns denied hooker the invitation to NY that he earned.

So I've decided that I am simply going to turn the tv off and listen to Bob during the games. It can't be worse than Gary Danielson.

ESPN didn't deny Hooker anything. There's a Heisman rule, albeit crappy one. If a player misses a game he's automatically dropped from being invited to NY. if they hated us that bad we wouldn't have been on Gameday twice. There's no bias towards Ala in the playoffs, most ESPN analysts said they didn't belong.

I know this board has a vendetta against ESPN and I’ll be cast out for saying this but I honestly think this season ESPN covered the Vols more than fairly. We had GameDay in Knoxville twice. We had GameDay in Athens. Desmond Howard and Rece Davis and Pat McAfee were all extremely complimentary of us during the season. Kirk didn’t pick us a lot and wasn’t a believer, but that doesn’t bother me.

This board just likes to complain about ESPN. That’s the real truth.

Agree 100%. They have no vendetta against US nor did they keep Hendon out of NY. There's a little known rule that if a player misses a game he's automatically kept out of the Heisman Finalists and NY. Really wish people would check facts before making these posts.

You are wrong. ESPN and most everybody talked up Tennessee all year--until we played like crap against georgia, in what was a very heavily hyped game, and then were much worse against South Carolina in the game that cost us a playoff berth. Opinions conform to results--period.

Disney has been hurt quite a bit by Covid and the economy. They’re struggling more than some are aware. Quite a leadership shakeup there lately.
Definitely a huge improvement recently going back to Iger

Talked down Tennessee? The Vols were the media darlings after the Bama win. Everyone on that network picked the Vols to win in Athens.

Do you have that rule? Just never heard that one.

I'm pretty sure most of the Heisman voters don't work for ESPN, but carry on. I haven't cared one way or the other about ESPN since they stopped having folks like Stuart Scott and Rich Eisen and Chris Berman etc on Sportscenter.

I haven't watched anything outside the game broadcasts for a long time.... since they began to be overtly political and "woke".

And frankly... the programming they produce isn't all that good.

Relax, after Peyton didn't win the Heisman, it became meaningless. It's pretty much a big10/pac10 award that no one cares about. Just need a new award that really awards the best player, not voted on by the ex heisman winners.

A B10/P10 award? In the last 15 years, the B10 has had zero Heisman winners and the P10 only one. Meanwhile, the SEC has seven over that stretch.

It's called the Maxwell Award.

Still bad, but better

I don't get how y'all watch those pre, half and post game shows. If it's not a live event, I don't even watch that channel. Haven't for years.

Really? I'd like to see that rule. I'm not doubting you, I'd just like to see it in writing. I was thinking RG III was a Heisman voter, and I know Dave Hooker was, and they both indicated they voted for HH for the final four. You'd think the voters would be aware of that rule.

So I did a little checking of facts, no such rule exists. In fact Ward won the Heisman over Shuler when he missed a game that season. A few different examples are there of players who have missed games and won the award. So I would really love to know where you came up with this?

Seems some fans work real hard to disqualify the merits of our players.

Ugh… this again…

Firstly, I want to say I only watch games on ESPN. Unless I just happen across a clip around the internet I never turn on ESPN just to have it on. That includes Gameday. I find their commentary boring even when it’s positive about TN.

That said, we were media darlings while undefeated. Gameday came to two home games in a 4 week span (essentially consecutive home home games). Everyone on the panel except Herbstreit picked us to win both games. Then they went to UGA and all of them except the UGA homer guest picker picked us.

Most were saying we should be #1 when the first CFP ranking came out. Even after UGA loss we were still talked about as a contender.

It wasn’t until the SC embarrassment that they jumped ship. Rightfully so.

Sorry if I fail to see this ESPN bias that some fans like to cry about.
