Who would have thought this game with lowly Auburn would arguably be the biggest game for the program in years? The great spin doctor DeerPark is already sweating a loss here...

I took a look at Auburn’s games and what a roller coaster. They lose 2 close ones to MS, played Kentucky tough , beat LSU and get blown out by Texas A&M in the 4th quarter. They also beat Drake earlier in the year and were blown out by MTSU.

Tennessee better come ready to play. Auburn will have no pressure to win.

What TN better do is not overlook Ole Miss THEN turn their attention to Auburn. Get in, work on some stuff, and get out healthy.

Tennessee's narrow escape over Vanderbilt in Knoxville wasn't the performance that would impress a committee member, but it was a win on a day when those weren't easy to come by. It was also one that the Lady Vols needed to keep a grip on a spot in the field. Tennessee is in very much the same position it was last year when it ultimately got a No. 11 seed. The schedule and number of top-50 wins was much better a year ago, but the number of bad losses and overall record are better this time around.

Define 'run'.

@ WCU in 5 seasons: 2 NCAA tourneys-both 1st rd. exits
2 WNIT tourneys-1st and 2nd rd. exits
Conference season rank: #5,#5,#1,#2,#3

@NCS in 4 seasons: 1 NCAA tourney- 1st rd. exit
2 WNIT tourneys- both 2nd round exits
Conference season rank: #5,#10,#9, #7

@MSU in 6 seasons: 2 NCAA tourneys-1st rd. exit and a final 16
3 WNIT tourneys-1st rd. exit, 1st rd. exit, 2nd rd. exit
Conference season rank: #6,#3,#2,#3,#2,#2
Tennessee is not WCU, NCS,or MSU.

They remind me a lot of us last season. Their defense shows up sometimes and not others. They also sporadically shoot very well as an entire team and very poorly as an entire team. Not a fun team to prep for because you have no idea if your getting Dr. Jekyll or Mr. Hyde. Have to prepare like they’ll play their best I guess.

Oh...okay.

That means Drury should be ranked at 27-0 this season, and head coach Molly Miller should be considered one of the top five women's coaches with a 175-17 record in only her sixth season with more games left to play.

And here I thought level of competition had something to do with rankings and not just wins.

I’d like to see a TN add them or Union instead of Carson Newman as the exhibition game. I’m sure either of those teams would travel to Knoxville to play an exh game 😃

With the record we have at the moment, we aren’t exactly keeping up with the competition, are we?? So imho, Princeton has just as much right to be in at 25 as TN. And at this point in the season, I’m not so certain that Princeton couldn’t take us.

I'm not certain, either, not having seen them play. But I'm guessing that playing four Top 10 teams and six currently ranked in top 16 would have prepared us to be more ready than what they have faced in the Ivy League.

I'm not arguing that we should be ranked or that or that Princeton shouldn't be considered simply because they're Ivy League. But I don't see anything on their resume that justifies havibg them as a potential 6 seed while we are at 11 and sweating out a win at Auburn just to make the field. Even your statement implies that you think Tennessee is at least equal to if not better than Princeton. It's the discrepancy in seeding that's puzzling.

I like seeing new teams get recognition and succeed in both the women's and the men's sports. But I'd like to see comparable team results be rewarded (or punished) fairly.

Well, let's see. If you use mutual opponents, the Lady Vols beat Mizzou by 11. Princeton beat them by 35. Princeton's only loss was at #18 Iowa by two points. (And Iowa beat both Maryland and Indiana at home, and only lost one home game this season.) Princeton also beat #27 Florida Gulf Coast by 14. They have won every conference game by 14 or more points, mostly by 20 or more points.

The Ivy League has some decent teams. Again, using mutual opponents, the Lady Vols beat Stetson by 27 points. Penn beat them by 40. And Princeton beat Penn by 20. The third best team in the Ivy, Yale, beat North Carolina this season. Princeton beat Yale in New Haven by 16.

Princeton would be the favorite in a matchup with Tennessee.

I rest your case. ;)

You may well be right, and Princeton may be a lot better than Tenn...better enough to get a high tournament seed while Tenn currently resides barely on the plus side of the bubble.

But comparative scores are tricky things. Princeton and Vandy beat Columbia by 22 and 21 points respectively. Pretty even, right?

And Tenn beat Vandy twice. Does that mean the same thing would happen if Tenn played Princeton?

UCONN beat Vandy by less than than UCONN beat us. Does that mean that Vandy is better than us?

I can see the trend you're pointing out, but there are so many factors...injuries & illnesses, taking physical beatings against tougher opponents, etc. Would teams who don't play ranked teams hold up as well over the long haul if they did have those games on their schedule? Would they be even better for having played stiffer competition?

That's an old debate that hasn't been settled. We'll see how teams fare in the tournament. I just question some of the seedings from teams who haven't been tested that much. And, no, I don't think Tenn should be ranked or have a high NCAA seed at this point.

And I don't think teams like Princeton should be counted out simply because their schedule only included one ranked team resulting in a loss.

Apparently the game Sunday hurt us, not nearly as much as a loss would have, but clearly in terms of confidence in us. We're still that team that can have stretches of inexplicable bad play that makes us vulnerable to anyone (except Ole Miss). I don't really trust us completely to win a first round game in either tourney so I can see why the tourney committee doesn't either.

Not at all a knock on KJH; I had hoped we'd be a bit farther along by now but not totally her fault we're not. There have been improvements, but most of them were before the season and not during it. It's also her misfortune that the we got the Get Out of Jail Free NCAA card last year and blew it. I don't think we get the legend sympathy card again this year.

So, its beat Auburn and/or win a couple of SEC tourney games. If we can't do that, the WNIT is probably the best place for us.

With Davis turning into Holdsclaw for the rest of the season!

I look for both. The continuing re-emergence Jordan and the confidence that that will bring two Davis has she needs a consistent Second Source. And the two of them may spark Ray and Jazz to continue to improve as well. I look for this Lady Vols team to turn the corner as of last game

@Ark is a tough matchup....UT isn't built to run against smaller teams that play offense in hyper mode. Ark might challenge some season long 3pt records that game, I see them scoring 70-80.

Right now, the SEC has 7 teams projected to make the tournament. Six teams will definitely make it in, maybe 7.

It's pretty obvious the game between Ark and UT is going to be important towards ensuring making the cut. The loser may have to win out the rest of their regular season games to be safe.
When KJH put in the smaller line up against Arkansas they did not look bad. When we had in our taller players they simply were not able to run with Arkansas. We also did not defend the three very well and on rebounds, only Burrell is consistent going after the ball. Davis needs to start flexing her skill set from the start of the game until the game is done. She is almost unguardable when she decides to be aggressive. I think Arkansas’ guards would have a tough time guarding Davis if she plays like she can play. I also feel that we have not seen the best of Jordan, if she keeps her mind in check and quit making so many turnovers she could be tough to guard. If she play like we know she can teams would have a hard time keeping her and Davis from scoring.
