Brad Nessler replacing Verne at CBS

If Nessler can just bring Blackledge back to CBS with him, that would be great. CBS has the best coverage, but ESPN has the better crew. Nessler and Blackledge on CBS would be great.

I agree with you. They made a great pairing together before on CBS then Blackledge left for ESPN. I don't dislike Gary Danielson but some of the things he says really irks me & saying momentum is no such thing is sports is one of them.

He loves him some Joey Freshwater... that's for sure.

He does, but it's generally a little more tolerable than Verne drooling over Florida and being a straight up homer any time they are on. As well as making the dozen or five references to Tim Tebow during any game.

Verne will not be missed.

I hope CBS keeps Verne around to call the 16th hole at Augusta. As terrible as he's become at football, he is still fantastic calling that Par 3.

Verne is a good guy with a lot of history, but for the last 10 years its been evident, he can't keep up. He was consistent at two things (1) His undying love for Timothy Richard Tebow; and (2) botching players names during his broadcast.

Nessler is a welcome addition to SEC on CBS. First Tirico, now Nessler leaving the mothership. Have heard ESPN financials are not good right now.

I think Verne just makes Danielson worse. I think some time apart would do him good. Its hard to be good when you have a guy constantly in your ear getting stuff wrong.

Agreed, he's rounding the third turn on the final lap of a Hall of Fame broadcasting career.

I also agree with whoever said Verne shouldn't give up his Masters gig...he's still money at Augusta.

He's had a good run all the way around. Football has become a struggle for him. You hate to see a great stumble and stagger around toward the end. I agree with Augusta.

Danielson is as good as there is right now.

I was actually at the Masters this year. It was my first time, and I recommend it to anyone.

I was at the 15th when the three aces went in on 16, and I kept thinking "I cannot wait to watch this on DVR and hear Verne's call."

I have never been at a single college football game, no matter how awesome, where I had the same thought.

Gary Danielson is one of the best CFB analyst out there today.

Not sure why he gets so much hate.

Like I said in one of my previous post, Danielson not believing in momentum as part of the game is what irks me about him. He's not a bad announcer. It's just that one thing that mainly makes me wonder about him. Momentum is a part of almost every single sport period.

Don't agree that Danielson is as good as they get right now. There are quite a few good college football announcers right now. I like Herbstreit pretty well. I also like Todd Blackledge really well. Still like Brent Musburger too. I'm not saying Danielson is bad either, He's ok to me but there's better ones.

I was a fan of Ron Franklin and Mike Gottfried.

Agree 100%. Miss those 2 calling games together bigtime. I actually liked when Verne & Blackledge called games together for CBS too but those days are long gone now. Verne just has lost it as expected as he's aging.

BTW, I do not like Chris Fowler being moved to calling games now. He's biased in several ways. He isn't that bad actually calling the games it's the way he talks about players/teams that I don't like. He needs to go back to hosting College Gameday even though I really like Ravech doing it now.

Its because the last few years all we really do with the exception of last years UGA game is lose on CBS. Thats pretty much the reason. He praises teams when they deserved to be praised and thats usually has been the team UT has been getting smashed by. lol I think he does a good job. He's fair and unbiased imo. He's not the best by any means though. Just okay imo. Verne...yeah. "Wow!" "Oh My" thats all that seems to come out his mouth.

and yeah sometimes Gary talks out of his ass though. Not believing in momentum but yet the last two minutes of the first half in the UGA game it sure sounded like he thought we had the momentum. lol

This is what I think as well. I will give an example of a Danielson weakness. Verne makes an observation and assumption of the result of a play or of an official's call/penalty. Danielson runs with it as truth and builds a huge case of why it is wrong and should be something else. Then replays are shown that prove both of them wrong. Danielson will not give in. He will continue to argue his point over and over until I want to shout at the TV. Instead, I turn the volume down.

He needs a better partner than Verne.

If Georgia has started its drive, at say the 20, they would've tied the game. Our defense was pitiful on that final drive. Georgia just ran out of time.

Also, it looks like Mike Tirico is leaving ESPN MNF to join NBC and call Sunday Night games and Sean McDonough (who is my favorite college football play by play man) is replacing Tirico and will be calling games with Gruden.

I'd personally like to see the mass exodus of talent continue to leave ESPN in droves, to the point where the 4 letter network loses a ton of market share and all but collapses. I wish they didn't have the rights to so many games that I want to watch. I'd never turn that crap network on otherwise.

As far as Nessler replacing Verne, that's a very good development for CBS IMO. He's great.

This is the truth. Thank God for Trevor Daniel's punt....it pretty much saved the game/preserved the win, which pretty much saved our season.
