Break out Dobbs PT during the Oregon game?

Nobody said it would be a good idea to START Dobbs....just sprinkle him in at certain times.

Even though Munchie Legaux got benched about halfway through the season, for the Bearcats last year, they continued to mix him in a little bit during some of their games.

With one of the best OL in the country in front of him and 2 starting WR's at 6'4"+, it is not like you're throwing him to the wolves.

A) you're throwing him to the wolves
B) if that were the plan, he would have been "sprinkled in" vs AP

Fail

It will be Worley's game. We could see a Peterman or Beast package but expect a heavy dose of Worley and our running backs. No freshmen QB please

OP continues to bat a 1,000.
Dude, it's just a question....do you always have to be such a smart a$$ drama queen? It's nothing that hasn't been done before. If someone asked what others thought about playing freshmen Ainge and Schaefer over a Senior transfer, not so many years ago, azz-wipes like you would have made the same snidely comments.

For a fan base that thinks their coach "gets it", there are an awful lot of people making suggestions as to who should or should not play.

Worry about your own coach. I don't think his redneck ass gets anything. Especially how not to act like a 12 year old girl.

No doubts, Butch has ZERO plans to burn Dobb's redshirt at Oregon or any other time this year.

How is it any different than any other debate about roster issues, with any other team? What is it about the internet that brings out the smart-@$$ in folks? Can't have a civil discussion over something as simple as bringing in one of our QB's in short yardage situations, or in the red zone from time to time.

I for one can't stand Florida but I have to say 99 is one of the better posters on here... Wouldn't a shot at butch it was a shot at the fans that think they know more than our own coach... This ain't Dooley anymore. We actually have a head coach now

I am being a redneck for asking a simple, harmless question? :loco: Your being a smart a$$ is any more mature than a 12yr old girl?

Nobody is saying they know more than the coaching staff, genius. It's a harmless question, asking if you wouldn't like to see them choose to bring in one of our more athletic QB's AT TIMES.

Some of you are like quarrelsome, nagging little b!atches.

Can you not respond without being an azz about it? Getting tired of not being able to have a civil discussion here. People get all kinds of smart-mouthed here, knowing they'd never act this way in person.

OK... All sarcasm aside... Here is why many in this thread are scratching their head at you:

  1. Dobbs is a true freshman, straight out of HS. He is talented mind you, but has been on campus for a very short time, with limited practice time, and almost no time in live-action getting used to the speed of the college game.
  2. Oregon is probably the fasted of the college action anyone would ever see. It's not a situation you would throw a true fesheman into, unless you just *had* to-- even sporatically.
  3. To put a true freshman into a situation that could mentally damage him (confidence problems), you'd better have a better reason than "well, we just wanted to change things up".
  4. If you *were* going to throw a true freshman in against one of the best teams in the nation, just to change things us, you'd tune him up against the likes of an AP.
  5. Despite what many on this board seem to think, championship teams are built on redshirt years. You protect them. You don't throw them away just to change things up.

Seems as though you are the only one having trouble with the "ciivility" of this discussion.

I don't think Dobbs is ready to play yet, after all he only went through the fall practice. Dobbs, like most every frosh, will need a RS season. Ferguson may be ready to play before Dobbs from what some coaches are saying.

Not sure what's so hard to understand about a depth chart.

1. Worley
2. Peterman
3. Ferguson
4. Dobbs

I know you stargazers just can't believe it...but Ferguson is the better Freshman QB right now. He will see the field first based on coach evaluation thus far. I don't think Dobbs will ever beat out Ferguson, think Riley will soon pass Peterman for the 2nd spot. Peterman didn't look good at all against AP, and Jones hasn't exactly been gushing about him in camp(s). JMO GBO VFL HUBAN PGFYourselves

If he didn't get playing time vs Austin Peay, how in the hell can you expect him to play vs Oregon?
From watching Butch Jones' interviews recently, it sounds like he's not really settled...that it's still somewhat fluid. Even if he has already named Worley the starter.

Some of it is the fact that he has mixed in an athletic qb in the past, under similar circumstances. Some of it is that he does prefer an athletic QB to run his system. Worley is the best option to start, but I have to think he is tempted to bring in one of the other 3, in certain situations.

Dobbs is, again, the most athletic and elusive of the group, and he is the only QB on the roster he specifically recruited. I'm sure they like Riley, too....but Dobbs seems likely to be the one they'd lean on if they wanted a true run option at QB.
