Breaking news: LSU to face Alabama in National Championship Game

So I guess the '07 Patriots should be considered world champs?
It's not the same. The Super Bowl champion is the team that makes it through the playoffs unbeaten.

The college football champion is the team ranked number 1 in the final AP or Coaches Poll. The coaches have to vote for the winner of the BCS Championship game. The AP can vote for whoever they want.

I don't think the AP will vote LSU number 1 if they lose, and I don't think LSU would really be eager to claim it if they did. Still, they would be AP national champions.

If only they had a defense as good as 2010 Auburn.

One of the worst teams to win the SEC in recent memory and even then the hip, high scoring "in" team of the year couldn't beat them. Great example again of why OSU belongs in a game for third.

Their giving up a lot of points certainly didn't stop them from beating defense minded Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

Nonsense. It was a fluke. Aside from those great plays Auburn made and Auburn scoring more points than Alabama, Alabama was clearly the better team.

Good point. I guess Alabama should have gotten another shot at the national title last year, too.

No, they lost to USC. That is the equivalent of losing to ISU and immediately eliminates you from serious contention of anything.

Well it's certainly a good thing we didn't let LSU play for the title in 2003 or 2007. It would have been horrible to see Florida play for the title in 2008.

Everyone talking about "strength of loss" should consider the following:

Going into the bowl season in 2008, Oklahoma was 12-1 with a loss against 11-1 Texas at a neutral site. Texas was 11-1 with a loss at 11-1 Texas Tech. Florida was 12-1 with a loss at home against 8-4 Ole Miss.

Who should have played for the national title?

It is USC, period. Two high impact hires can't win a title at that place, no one will. 10 wins a Florida bowl game is the best possible scenario.

I'm not saying that they can win a title. I'm saying that losing to that USCe isn't a bad loss.

I want the 2 best teams to play, I can't help that Alabama is one of them.

OSU is about as interesting as watching paint dry.

SEC Pride. Roll Tide, Geaux Tigers. I would like to see how the Big 12 champ would fare against the SEC champ. It is not fair to LSU or OSU. Especially LSU to have ran the table and play in a conference title game. OSU destroyed OU to close out the season emphatically. That game, schedule strength and being conference champs in a more competitive conference top to bottom should trump runner up in the SEC West.

It does. Same way Oregon fools people like you that nonsense like that can hold up against quality teams.

Oregon lost the NC game by three points last year. Texas and Alabama was a very competitive game the year before. Bama had trouble against their wide open offense with a freshman back-up QB in the game.

Today would make for a good game between the two at LP Field for round 2 of this best of 3 winner take all.
