Breaking news: LSU to face Alabama in National Championship Game

I'm sure the bama faithful would be heartbroken by this fact while the tiger fans would feel so good after the loss knowing this fact. Note extreme sarcasm.

I am confident LSU fans were praying they got OSU.

The Bama faithful have already claimed another NC so thats irrelevant.

If I was LSU Id feel plenty confident. They have beaten everyone they have played including Bama on their own field. I doubt they mind it. They're gonna walk away with a split NC at the worse.

Nonsense. No one is going to feel good about losing the NC game. No one loses that game and leaves the stadium pointing at Bama fans to remember the regular season game. THIS is the championship game. Anyone that thinks the regular season would be enough to make everyone be ok with losing this game is being unrealistic.

Call it what you want.

LSU can lay claim to split and have just as much right splitting with Bama and winning an extra game.

Call it what ever you like.

Its not a playoff. If it was, LSU and Bama would play a third time.

Again, I call it sport.

LSU can have the AP title. It would be the most anti-climatic and depressing championship I can remember. Yea, we just lost, we are champions! Puke.

It would be "sport" if they play a third game, no? At that point there is no debate. One of them would have 2 losses.

I am unfamiliar with sports where a team loses their final postseason game and is called champion.

How can you want Bama in the title game? Go SEC!!! Bama had their shot at home and didn't win. LSU should not have to play them again and the more interesting matchup would be OSU's offense against LSU's defense. Let Bama play Andrew Luck or something. I propose a best of seven series between Alabam and LSU so we will know for sure who the better team is.

I just heard they were thinking of cancelling the BCS NC game because they seen this thread and they're afraid no one will be watching the game. Thanks a lot guys!

Quote it then. Oh right you can't, idiot. Your reading comprehension skills are as awful as your analysis of college football teams.

Btw, don't expect Bama to blow chunks in their rematch with LSU like USC did with Auburn last year. Those kind of performances are only for programs that have spent their entire existence as bottom dwellers.

You basically called LSU's performance a fluke because they made great plays and scored more points. You're hardly in a position to be calling anybody an idiot.

Here's hoping LSU wins by thirty.

I am hearing $3500 a seat in the Superdome. Two tickets is probably 30% of the annual household income in Tuscaloosa.

Yes, how can the winner of the NC GAME argue they are national champions. Pure insanity.

Who said they can argue it? I said argument is limited and will be weak. The title on the game is crap when it's pieced together in such a pathetic fashion. The résumé review is a bullshiz approach to title game inclusion because of disparity of schedules. That said, OSU played a better schedule and beat better teams. AL is in this game based upon a quality loss, which is stupid as hell. It's the argument Vol fans were making last year in support of Dooley.

Dude, College Football has as good of a track record of any sport of crowning the best team as National Champ. Compare to MLB, NCAAbb, and the NFL. The resume review approach is better than the 5 game hot streak approach (hoops) and the 10+ games worse Wild Card approach (MLB).

Purpose of the system: have the two best teams play.

Maybe, but it seems that the purpose of the "system" and the previous system was to produce debate rather than a definite champion.

A playoff would give a definite champion, but would probably change the debating from who is the champion to who gets in the playoff.

So those who prefer to have the college football discussion go on and on would still have their debate and there would be a champion decided on the field.

Exactly. A playoff system is no more inherently "fair" that the current BCS system. All a playoff system does is determine who the best team over an isolated 3-4 week stretch is. At least the BCS tries to reward the teams who are good over the full course of the season.

The fairest system I know of crowning a champion in any sport is the one that is used in the English Premier League and other soccer leagues around the world. Each team plays every other team once at home and once away. 3 points are awarded for victories, 1 point for draws and 0 for losses. At the end of the season, the team with the most points is champion. Teams are also involved in playoff systems throughout the year, but those competitions are entirely separate from the league season. From my understanding there is as much, if not more pride in winning the league title as there is in winning any of the playoff titles.

Obviously that system used in soccer would be hard to use in football because of the limited number of games that are played. Just pointing out that a playoff system, particularly one that uses single elimination does no better and often times a worse job of crowning the season's best team as it's champion.

I respectfully disagree.

Decide it on the field. So what if a team gets "hot" at the right time and influences what happens. Getting "hot" at the right time influences a lot of things in life and that's just the way it is.

I'm just kind of curious how you think a team getting "hot" and winning a championship is more valid than choosing a champion based on comparing resumes. Do you realize that it's been 8 years since the best team from the NFL regular season has won the championship? There are many of variables that bring luck into play in a playoff system like getting hot at the right time, drawing more favorable matchups than other teams, etc. The same goes for just picking based on a regular season too. Not everyone plays the same teams or same difficulty of schedule.

Like I said in my previous post, none of these systems are truly "fair". They all have their own imperfections. The EPL point system is the fairest method I know of that a popular sports uses to crown it's champion, but for obvious reasons, that won't work in the NFL of college football. Teams just can't play that many games.

I also do like how they have a knockout style tournament separate from the main season that allows for that same luck factor to give teams who might not have what it takes over the long haul of the season but can survive and advance one game at a time. This allows more than one team to win a title in a given year as one team can be "league champion" by winning the long haul points title, but another can be "cup champion" by winning the knockout tournament.

The odds of a team that is in the top 4-8 in the BCS or is a BCS conf champ "getting hot" and making the playoffs is very small

Horribly incorrect decision by the voters here. Oklahoma State played a tougher schedule than Bama. The Big 12 was deeper than the SEC this season. It should be about all 12 games, and not just the one loss.

There should not be a rematch in the title game unless it isn't close.

We will never know how OkSU would have done. LSU and Bama cannot prove they are better than OkSU if neither team plays anyone in the Big 12.

Also, the asinine notion that we don't need a playoff, because the 'season is a playoff,' is soundly defeated when two teams are able to reach the final out of the same bracket.

BCS system failed bigtime in 2011.

To me, one of the most exciting times in sports is when an underdog participant gets "hot" and wins a game they were not expected to win. They were the best team when it mattered.
