Bret Smith

Where did you get that from? I think Troop knows he is good....if he didn't think so....why do they go to him so much.....it's a team effort...and i think all three receivers are good.....and they couldn't do it without ALL THREE of them or AT LEAST TWO!!!

Troop said during spring/summer training that Smith was getting outperformed by Lucas Taylor and Austin Rogers. The disparity in talent will be evident in the NFL draft. Swain and Meachem will be high picks. Smith won't be drafted at all. He's too inconsistent and he doesn't make big plays. He simply is not the kind of gamebreaker that Swain and Meachem are.

IMO, for Tennessee to beat South Carolina Bret Smith will have to have a good game. Swain's ankle looks like it might keep him out next week.

Well, it's kind of common knowledge. And yes, they went to Bret Smith a lot today because he was open due to Alabama concentrating on Swain and Meachem. Trooper doesn't tell Ainge who to throw the ball to....
well....i just hope that bret continues to perform....and i also hope that meach continues to do well....and that jason gets better....i think it will take all three of them to win the rest of their games....ALSO....Ainge throws to Bret because he knows HE HAS GOOD HANDS!!!!

I agree. Also, when I started the thread, I never said the guy was going to go pro and end up in the hall of fame. I'm just glad he's getting open and making some catches. If he doesn't make some catches in the 4th quarter today, we lose the game. He's a good No. 3 man to have. I do hope Swain gets better though.

Yeah, it would be nice to get them all involved in every game. Bret Smith does have good hands, but I'd say Ainge throws him the ball because he's open.

I think Foster has a huge game to help destroy USC... and they won't be able to contain Meach like Bama did. Smith should have a descent game as well... if Swain isn't 100%.

i beg to differ....Bret will play in the NFL next year.....the NFL is also about potential....besides there are so many players who go to the nfl and don't make it....and then there are so many who are NO NAMES in college or not BIG TIME PLAYERS and end of shining in the NFL.....come the fallof 2007...i can't wait to holla back at you and talk Bret being draft (although i don't think he will go in the earlier round) or a FA who is picked up....it's all good!! i hope they all get drafted or get to play in the NFL...

I would give my left nut to have a tight end as good as Jason Witten on this team, well, maybe not my nut, but one of my kidneys for sure.:)
i disagree...i think the cottams both have potential....they just don't seem to be able to get the ball in their hands....they are SOME BIG GUYS....and i think with practice they will get better......they are soo big....they should be a thret to other teams....

I'd love to see another Vol be successful in the NFL, but I don't see it happening with him. He's pretty fast, but his hands really aren't that great. He's dropped a few this year. Last year, he was absolutely atrocious. I was calling for Bret Smith and Chris Hannon to be benched last year. There are a lot of good wide receivers eligible for the draft this year. I think with all those guys out there, now one will be in a rush to pick up Smith. He'll probably get his shot as a free agent.

Fact is, Smith is benefiting from the defense focusing on Swain and Meachem. I agree, Smith is good... but he's just not as talented as Meachem or Swain.
true...maybe so...but the main thing is...he has stepped up....also, i think not everyone can be the star.....it takes everyone to win including having depth....

Brad Cottam has dropped several passes this year. There's no reason to force the ball to him when we have a better TE in Chris Brown and the nation's best wide receiver duo.

Yeah, I'd say he'll most likely get picked up as a free agent. I mean, CJ Fayton (Jets-- didn't make team) and Chris Hannon (Chiefs) both got a chance, and I think Smith is as talented as them.

For one thing Bret Smith has showed up in some big games during his career. With more playing time and Ainge begins to trust him more he will excel.....I'm sure.

First of all Rogers has Mono. Briscoe and Taylor are young and IMO will be great. Hancock is the best young WR we have but they didnt play him at all today. Young guy in this game would have made a mistake.

I read that CPF is gonna try and redshirt Rogers.

Well Charly IMO Taylor sucks ! Briscoe will come into his own, but Taylor simply doesn't have what it takes !

:)...you're right....i hope UT continues to do well.....they look good this year, but today's game had me nervous.....

You are obviously at least somewhat partial. Is your husband Bret Smith? Seriously, has he had a reception over ten yards this year? If he saw the type of coverage that Swain and Meachem see every week, I am pretty sure he would be a non-factor.

okay....and by the way chris hannon is in the NFL...he's on the chiefs team....but you know even if Bret does not go pro....i am happy he is having a good year thus far and I hope UT continues to win! and I HOPE GA BEATS FLA.

Don't give up on Taylor just yet. One thing with Coach Cut's offensive scheme is guys have to find out what their role is. Now with some injuries and Taylor getting more reps and as he settles in to the offense he with improve....he has the talent. Just don't count him out just yet. Okay.

Smith's long was 49 yards during the Bama game.

UGa beating UF is a pipe dream at this point. I hope they do, but I like to live in the real world. Us gashing them for 51 totally destroyed their confidence on defense. They damn near lost to Miss. State today and got beat by Vandy at home last week.
